Comments Thread For: BoxingScene's 2010 Awards: Event, Robbery, and Round

It was a year of disappointments, cancellations, and then escalations into the sort of fights that make the first two problems evaporate, if only for a night.

There is no question knockout of the year will be Martinez' KO of Williams in round 2. Martinez dropped him like a used rubber....

Well I'd pick Frenkel-Maccarinelli although both are brutal.

HBO didn't drop the Klitschkos because of "ratings." When Vitali last fought on HBO against Arreola, it was HBO's highest rated fight of 2009. They dropped the Klitschkos because they don't like them fighting in Germany, with the early start times. Ross Greenberg has already said he wants them back in the US versus Adamek and Haye. So this writer should get his facts straight.

Arreola's U.S. Mexican fanbase had a lot to do with that (as did the Mayweather-Marquez replay that went with it) and it was the exception. The German start times influenced greatly, but the numbers were not good at all for fights like Wlad-Austin. Vitali, at one time, was building into a ratings winner but it didn't quite pan out when he got hurt.

ko of the year and fighter of the year should go to sergio martinez. fight of the year in my opinion was maidana- khan,, but froch kessler was a goody too.. prospect of the year imo would be islandy lara (didnt spell the first name right) or maybe sadam ali.. comeback of the year imo opinion would be bernard hopkins.. but i read an article on glen johnson and they made some good points.. so thats kinda tuff.. johnson did move down in weight and get a ko.. but hopkins fought a young guy and did the damn thing.
