Well, it looks like Floyd Mayweather will once again screw every boxing fan in the world by ducking Manny Pacquiao. That means Bob Arum has no choice but to start looking for other opponents who can potentially challenge Pacman.
It’s a 99% done deal that Pacquiao’s next opponent will be Shane Mosley in May of 2011, but fans who would rather see Manny take a third fight with Juan Manuel Marquez can now rest easier tonight.
Freddie Roach assures us a third fight with Dinamita will happen in the near future.
“I’m not too worried. After Mosley, the Marquez fight will still be there. He’ll be there after this fight. I don’t see Marquez going anywhere. We just have to keep winning and I think that fight will happen,” Roach said. “Marquez just wants to say no by negotiating the way that he wants to negotiate. That’s a polite way of saying no. He doesn’t really want to fight us.”
I suppose this can be considered good news because a lot of fight fans would much rather see Pacquiao fight Marquez instead of Mosley. However, I can’t help but be disappointed that they seem to have completely forgotten about Floyd Mayweather.
I realize there’s nothing they can do about it because Money May is openly ducking Pacquiao and is obviously too scared to fight him. But it’s still a bummer knowing the one-fight that could bring boxing back to the mainstream will probably never happen.
