Comments Thread For: Hasegawa-Gonzalez, Aoh-Salgado Could Head To Mexico

A planned championship doubleheader could take place in Mexico. Akihiko Honda, president of Teiken Promotions, is planning a big doubleheader event for February. The main event would see WBC featherweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa (29-3, 12KOs) make the first defense of his title against mandatory challenger Jhonny Gonzalez (47-7, 41KOs) of Mexico. The co-feature would have Juan Carlos Salgado (22-1, 16KOs) challenge WBC super featherweight champion Takahiro Aoh.

Hasegawa is playing with fire against Gonzalez. Jhonny is very dangerous, he's only lost from come from behind knockouts where he's leading on the cards, so he's not someone that's going to be outboxed easily. Not only that, but he has P4P level power that he's carried with him through 4 divisions now. He's not a gimme defense.

Word. Jhonny's a very good fighter. I'm really looking forward to this fight.

BTW, Nishioka brutally KHTFO, though. That was a nasty KO.

It was an ill KO, but Nishioka is a good 122 pound fighter with a better left hand than HH. Jhonny almost takes away a southpaws right hand and that's Hasegawa's main weapon, add that to it being only Hasegawa's 2nd fight at 126, where his defense looked leaky. Jhonny has a good shot.

Johnny to me is similar to Khan, where there won't be many that can simply outbox him, where he'll lose a decision. If he loses it'll be by KO, but those are pretty good chances.
