You made good points! Also to add, It's actually beneficial for Arum to make fight with his own fighters (Cotto, Clottey, Margarito) in both his share of the money and also negotiations wise.

To touch on all the posters who've replied:

There are currently 7 black American fighters holding 8 world titles out of 85 world title belts between the WBA, WBO, WBC, IBO and IBF. So Less than 10%.

This isn't even the point of the post though. As mentioned, Im not saying theyre arent good and great black fighters around. Devon Alexander and Paul Williams are two of my favorite fighters.

Im saying things have changed a lot.

boxing has changed. boxing is considered "dead" to the american public to be honest with you.

as a black American fighter you can't really make money anymore. black american fighters like bradley & dawson struggle with making any real money from boxing. no one cares when a black american fighter dominates because it's been done a million times over already. but when a person from a smaller country wins it's EXCITING. if black fighters were making as much as they were making in the 80's & 90's it would be INFESTED with AA fighters. (it's all about money) a AA boxer of this current time is viewed as being more problematic then any kind of good. it's a lot of insecure people out there.

not one region race or culture is dominating boxing. boxing is more of a free for all today.

I completely agree about the money. People who have athletic children are pushing them into the NBA and NFL, not Boxing. However, it is what it is, and guys from other countries are holding 90% of the belts.

However, I disagree with you on being bored with black fighters because they've been there and done that. I feel the public is less interested in boxing because their expectations are much higher because of all the great (black) fighters theyre used to seeing. This is also why I think Americans like Pacquiao so much. I dont think it has to do with where hes from as much as what hes doing.

                He's fighting exciting.
He's getting in there and ****ing. Hes getting KOs on bigger guys in the 1st round. His fights are unpredictable and his fights are violent. People like him. Just like they liked Tyson, Duran, Hagler, ect.

Boxing paydays are as good as ever. It might not be as popular as it once was, but the money it still there.
