Comments Thread For: Erik Morales' Father: Jorge Barrios is a Risky Fight

As it was reported last week by BoxingScene.com/NotiFight.com, three-time world champion Erik "Terrible" Morales will face the former world champion at 130 pounds, Argentine boxer Jorge "Hyena" Barrios on December 18 at Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico. It's being said the WBC's silver belt at junior welterweight will be at stake with a catch-weight of 138-pounds.

i think catchweight fights are becoming more common these days...i think catchweight fights are fair as long as the boxer is not required to move up or down a weight division...as long as the catchweight is kept within the division weight limit, im all for it.

i would prefer to see no catchweight fight while implementing some kind of policy put in place where a boxer cannot weigh more than 5lbs over the max weight limit on fight nite...im sure this would eliminate the need for catchweights...if you cannot stay within the 5lbs, you should be fighting in the next division higher.

i mean, i hate seeing a guy come in on fight nite weighing close to 170 for a welterweight fight

That takes away the entire point of..well...making weight.

If you can MAKE the WEIGHT of a division then you should be able to fight in that division. That is boxing and will always be boxing. Do you think people are actually walking around at 108lbs?

I still think Barrios is a huge step up for Morales right now, but if he can make 138 comfortably and decisively beat Barrios, then I think he'll be ready for Marquez at 135.

No disrespect.. but honestly, every fight is risky for El Terrible in 2010. I wish him all the best though. This one should be a war.

I wish this fight would have happened 5 to 6 years ago. Still, should be a war while it lasts. Hopefully HBO or Showtime picks it up since I will not pay for it. And come to think of it, if Rocky Juarez can beat Barrios (which was sheer luck), then I believe Morales may just have enough left to take him. I will say this, if Erik wins this fight, then he will have earned a title shot. You can't say he is hand picking his opponents now...

Erik Morales is doing catch weights so he can slowy come down to 135lb's, he hadn't fought in over 3 years, his first fight back was at 147, his second was at 143 & this will be at 138, he's slowy getting his body to 135lb's, i don't think nothing is wrong with that. If Morales attempted 135lb's for his first comeback fight he would of destoryed his body.
