  • Comments Thread For: Shannon Briggs: 14 Years, But He Proved His Point

By Thomas Gerbasi - Shannon Briggs didn’t deserve a shot at the world heavyweight title last Saturday night. It isn’t even fair to say that he gave a career-defining performance in defeat against Vitali Klitschko in Hamburg, Germany. But there’s a reason the fight world is talking about the Brownsville, Brooklyn native, and it has everything to do with both the bad and great parts of this game that is anything but a mere sporting event.

For 12 rounds, Briggs was on the wrong end of Klitschko’s left jab and right hand, particularly the right hand. The 38-year old’s return fire was sporadic and pawing at best, with little of the fire or brimstone that saw him send 45 of his 51 pro victims to defeat by knockout. No, Briggs was every ounce of 38 years old, showing nearly two decades worth of toil on his face. [Click Here To Read More]

What a ridiculous premise. Briggs' heart was never in doubt after the Foreman and Lewis bouts, where he took some heavy beatings and stuck in there through it.

Everybody knew Shannon could take a punch and had the guts to back it up and not quit. Everybody expected him to get hit a *lot* in the Klitschko fight.

Anybody who has suffered from asthma will understand how he was feeling in the Wilson fight. You panic. It's a frightening state to be in, like all the air has been ****** out of the room and you simply can't breathe.

Whoever wrote this article needs to wake up and stop smoking Turd Cigars. Briggs proved his mettle against Lewis and his chin against Foreman.

Big-ups to Shannon Briggs! He fought like a warrior even if he was taking big shots... He still had a lot of heart and was even respected by Klitschko going into the final rounds. I knew he would lose, but I take my hat off to him!

Well... actually, he was not really fighting (especially in the last 4 rounds), but was taking evil amount of power punches.

Today me and with a friend of mine had a laugh, comparing Briggs performance with a Simpsons episode 'The Homer They Fall' Sure, he has a heart and is a great puncher. But a good fight requires not "having" but "giving".

Briggs proved what? That his solid block stone head could absorb a terrible beating and assault over 12 rounds in an almost inhumane way. Not since the days of the civil war was has a black man been beaten so bad without his master being arrested. It was a sickening sight to see briggs brutally battered and defenseless all night. Sad.

After watching Vitali´s last fights, I think that Arreola has been his best oponent.
