Comments Thread For: Vitali Klitschko-Shannon Briggs: Post-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - It didn’t look like much on paper. It turned out to be as little as expected and, given a referee who was far too free with the health of Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KO), maybe a little worse. When a division is all but cleaned out, and the few Heavyweights who appear live challengers for the top dog (dogs in this case) don’t seem in a hurry to make a run at the best, fights like Vitali Klitschko-Shannon Briggs happen. B for briggs on speed?

          more like a D-

this was a dreadful fight, just dreadful,

briggs wouldnt even throw let alone a jab

it just baffles me how little these pro fighters of today throw or use a jab

          it is just embarrassing.

on another note, vitali fights like a robot, is there to get hit, sure has some

head movement but NO torso flexion or rotation and his arms and hands

are literally down at his sides...double that jab and send a right hand down

i dont get it, or jab straight to the stomach and follow up to with a right..

can someone please throw punches at this guy and not PUSH their punches at

          him?

i think a healthy holyfield of 5 years ago beats this version of vitali....no joke

its hard to give vitali credit when he was fighting a punching bag in briggs who

did NOT punch or disrupt vitali, just stood there all night

          i dont get it

and why does briggs try to shoulder roll but without the shoulder roll????

all he does is keep his right on his right chin, but he doesnt roll and he doesnt

tip his front shoulder up to block his left side

wtf is that? shoulder roll posture without the shoulder roll defense, good idea

          brigss

          wtf

            Well-written article by Cliff Rold.

I agree with these comments though. If Vitali had fought like this against any of the great heavies of the past 20 years, he would have been in a world of trouble. His lack of defense, his lack of upper-body movement and agility, and his slow, predictable 1-2s would have doomed him against Lewis, Holyfield and maybe even Tyson.

I totally enjoyed watching Vitali destroy Briggs. I agree the fight should have been stopped sooner, but that's boxing. Briggs didn't want it stopped. Briggs has been talking major **** about the K-Bros for the last few years, and demanding a shot, and he got what he asked for. Which only goes to show: be careful what you ask for.

So why all the whining? Briggs was certainly more dangerous than Chuck Wepner, or Randall "Tex" Cobb, to name two guys Clay and Holmes beat up on. And there was no-one else both willing and able to fight right now who is any better than Briggs.

Ha ha ha. No ****ing way, pal. "It's hard to give Vitali credit" when you don't like him in the first place, you mean. Vitali is far more skilled than you suggest, from his career as a top kickboxer to his career as an elite heavyweight. The rather simplistic idea of jabbing to the stomach and throwing a right is laughable. What is Vitali going to be doing while the opponent is trying that? When are some of you going to wise up and realize that Vitali really knows what he's doing? It's getting really sad listening to some of your rationalizations.

So post fight, Briggs defense is still a C.

                    What fight was BoxingScene watching?
