he was a great fighter IMO and it was great to watch his athleticism in the ring
So you would give no credit to his timing? His footwork? His precise combinations? His technique? His conditioning?

I wouldn't even say I'm really a fan of Roy, but to say he had no skills is going pretty overboard.

His decline was because he lost his legs and stamina because his defense was based on constant footwork, when they went, his defense was to shell up and get dominated on the ropes by those that could.

people are confusing fundamentals with skills
      roy lacked fundamentals, not skills.

To people who think it's just athleticism: Would Lebron James be able to dominate the heavyweight division with a year of training?

He's probably one of the fastest, quickest, and athletic humans on earth.

just because Roy wasn't a fundamentally textbook fighter doesn't mean he didn't have skills

Roy Jones is probably one of THE most skilled fighters i have ever watched

plus that statement came from Burner...that's like complaining about a ******ed kid for drooling on himself

I never said he didn't have skills, I said "He didn't have GREAT BOXING skills", if Burner said he has "NO BOXING SKILLS" then yeah he is wrong

but as far as Roy's Timing, Footwork that again has a lot to do with his athleticism, Roy could hit you with 5 punches and be out of site before you throw a punch, his athleticism was his gift

yes his decline came once he lost his legs and stamina because that was basically his advantage, while a guy like Hopkins is still effective even at a old age BECAUSE he had more boxing skills then Roy, the first fight Bernard just had no answer for Jones speed

I was watching some highlights posted a few weeks ago and wanted to say something similar. Not so much that he didn't have skills but did anyone notice how Roy always fought with his hands as low as his waist sometimes?

He was just all speed with ridiculously bad habits. It's no wonder he's getting tagged at this stage. But he was so damn fast that he actually got away with fighting the worst fight he could. I was amazed when I was re-watching those highlights. He fought like a lot of uneducated fighters attempt to fight.

There are few fighters in history of boxing that got more skills then RJJ.
