Poor Bernard Hopkins! Forced to fight Morrade Hakkar as one of those mandatory fights in 2002, Hopkins spent the entire eight rounds trying to catch the elusive Frenchman. Hakkar’s only real goal was to survive, and he managed to go through the first round without throwing a single punch!! He ran, ran, and ran, but eventually, the ring became smaller as Hopkins caught his man and pummeled the inferior fighter. Hakkar had no real punch and not much of a championship chin either. How he was rated that high still remains a mystery; and this fight did not enhance Hopkins’ career. [details]

since alot of people speculate that if hopkins would have thrown more than a couple dozen punches in the first eight rounds that the judges would have given him the win. then i speculate that if taylor hadn't of gotten that horrendous headbutt, that gash down to his skull,he would have won more convincingly.
man, in the first half of the fight taylor was so anxious that most of his punches were glancing blows. it wasnt because hopkins skill was making them be glancing.
when that headbutt happened i thought the inexpierienced pro was going to fold up and what little confidence he started with would be gone.but he hung in there somehow even after he burnt himself up early with throwing all those glancers.
ford giving taylor the twelve was ****ty. roth giving hopkins all those rounds was ****ty.i looked at this fight as a twelve round boxing match not who looked better at the end or who won the last few rounds like you would in a street fight. after scoring the fight for the second time i had way more even rounds than i like. the third time i scored it i had even more even rounds. i progressed from taylor 116-113 to taylor 116-115.
i'm amazed taylor didnt fall apart after that headbutt.
i cant believe the poll on this site with practically most thinking hopkins going to win the rematch.
taylor with confidents building time off and more time to train to overcome his mistakes he knows he made will win this fight convincingly. keeping his left down worries me tho.more body shots to slow hop down in later rounds and less glancing punches are major keys to victory.
altho hop has used the same gameplan in all his latter career fights i feel he's going to come up with something new because it wont work the second time with jermain.
