By Keith Idec - Tavoris Cloud doesn’t think Chad Dawson is the best 28-year-old light heavyweight in boxing, never mind the best light heavyweight overall.
Dawson has beaten more accomplished opponents and is ranked above Cloud on every relevant list of 175-pound boxers, but Cloud has been provided a perfect opportunity to at least create more demand for a fight against Dawson and a chance to prove his point. If the undefeated Cloud can overcome seemingly ageless Glen Johnson tonight in St. Louis, a Dawson-Cloud clash would become more intriguing and age appropriate than any other fight in a division carried in recent years by Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Tarver, Roy Jones Jr. and Johnson, all 41 and over.
Cloud could really generate interest in a fight against Dawson if he beats Johnson in a manner similar to how Dawson defeated the granite-chinned Jamaican on Nov. 7 in Hartford, Conn.
