Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr-Nascimento In Play For Sept. 11 In Mexico

By Jake Donovan - An old name has resurfaced in the career of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., as the who, when and where have been revealed for the undefeated middleweight’s next ring appearance.

The son of the legendary Mexican fighter will return to the ring on September 11 in Queretaro, Mexico. He will face Carlos Nascimento of Brazil in a 12-round middleweight bout that will headline a card that airs via pay-per-view in the United States and on TV Azteca in Mexico.

Details of the event were held back until Zanfer Boxing - who will co-promote the show along with American partner Top Rank - could negotiate a deal with state government authorities to stage the event on the Saturday preceding the bicentennial anniversary of Mexican Independence Day (September 16). the plan all along was to take a tune-up in September and then a step-up fight in December. It's entirely possible that they don't fight anyone of note in December, mind you, but someone like Nascimento was expected all along for the pre-Mexican Independence Day card.

If Jr. can knock this guy out faster than Dzinziruk it will make a statement.

The only statement getting made here is that Jr. isn't ready for a title shot after 40 something fights, and he may never be. Fighting nobodies in his hometown is weak and no way to prepare for a title shot. He'll never be middleweight champion like this.

If this dude was good enough for Dzinziruk to fight then he's good enough for Jr. to fight too, especially at this point in his career.
