The Unanswered Question Part #2: Why Does Bob Arum Hate Miguel Cotto but Love A.M.?

In the 1st round, Cotto dropped Clottey with a very well timed jab, the 1st time the Ghanian had been floored in his career. However, bad luck followed Cotto as the Grand Head Butter would clash heads with Cotto, opening an enormous gash over the eye of Cotto. Instead of following his plan and fighting to win, Cotto would have to use his guile, toughness and smarts to manuever his way through to a very hard fought 12 round split decision victory. Not his best performance, but was that part of Arum's plan? Knowing the hard-headnesses of Clottey, did he hope something like this would happen, a severe eye injury to Cotto? This lead to what many thought would be a great matchup of Cotto-Pacquaio. It would be for the 147 lb WBO title fought at the ......145 lb weight limit?????????? The idea began when Bob Arum threw out his idea of a catchweight in between the 140-147 lb area. Cotto was at the end of his contract with Top Rank and having recently shown his great displeasure with the organization, voiced his concern with not having any problem being a free agent and testing the waters, potentially with Golden Boy Promotions. However, Arum held Cotto hostage, letting him know he would not get the Pacquaio fight unless he signed a contract extension with him. Again, have you recently seen a promoter do such things to one of its star fighters, hold fights away unless they sign exclusively to you?

Cotto agreed, agreed virtually to everything, a catchweight, the extension, etc. just to get the fight made. The match occurred, very competitive early on until Cotto was dropped twice and from the midpoint on, took another battering until the 12th when the bout was stopped. Pacquaio was awarded the WBO title at the catchweight of 145 lbs. He was now the WBO 145 Lb Champion of the World, the new weight class found by Bob Arum in November 2009. Cotto once again seemed to have been bamboozled by his Promoter and this time, instead of a Mexican, a Filipino.

Fast forward to the early part of 2010, Pacquaio was slated to meet tough rugged Joshua Clottey for the WBO 145 LB Title at the catchweight of......147 pounds ? What the **** is this, you say? How could Mr. Arum move the goal posts from one direction for one of his star fighters and move them in the seemingly opposite direction for what amounted to a mid-tier level fighter in his stable? Does he hate Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rican fighters? Was it because Clottey is Black? Why would he handicap one of his supposed star fighters but level the field for one of his mid-tier pugilists? The bout was held in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The bout went the full distance with the unanimous decision going to Pacquaio.

Meanwhile, Antonio Margarito's upcoming one year suspension had just about ended and he returned to face journeyman Garcia. The bout went the full distance but Margarito, to many people without his plaster induced handwrappings, did not look particularly spectacular lacking his previously strong punching power. Margarito was awarded with the unanimous decision. After the bout, Margarito was shown mocking the cameras showing his wraps were clean and saying "I did nothing wrong." Word had got back to Arum about the Margarito showing, where he was said to have been very pleased by the performance and was caught on tape yelling "Viva Mexico!" A foreshadowing of his all Mexico Only allegiance?

Let us remember many years back, a gentle-something by the name of Oscar De La Hoya, world famous transvestite-wearing, Free Runner, promoter of Golden Boy Promotions declared that he had beaten the "biggest *** to come out of Harvard". That *** he was referring to was none other than Bob Arum himself. Cotto decided to come back in his 3rd class, Jr. Middleweight but he was looking for an opponent. Bob Arum, master ***, decided why not put him up against practicing Rabbi and recent convert to *******, Yuri Foreman for the WBA Jr. Middleweight Title which belonged to Yuri Foreman? Cotto and Foreman would both meet at the new Yankee Stadium. Something interesting happened on the way there, however. All of the promotion by Top Rank and Bob Arum seemed to focus on fellow ***, Yuri Foreman. Current Big Star and one of top 3 ticket earners in the sport, Miguel Cotto was virtually completely.....ignored. Foreman would find his way around various television programs, ESPN specials E:60, Late Night Talk shows Letterman, Leno, Jimmy Kimmel with Cotto....left in the dark. Something was amiss. Clearly, as the bout was coming closer, people were drawing their own conclusions. Arum and Top Rank were working together promoting Yuri Foreman, leaving Cotto in the dust. Secretly, although they wouldn't say it publically, Bob Arum and Top Rank were hoping Miguel Cotto was completely shot and ruined from his hard fights, legal and potentially illegal, and hoping he would be completely destroyed by Yuri Foreman because in the words of Bob Arum himself, "If Yuri Foreman wins, he'll be huge.......HUGE!". Unfortunately for Mr. Arum, as the giant crowd at Yankee Stadium saw, under the tutelage of new HOF trainer, Emmanuel Steward, Cotto was far from shot and completely dominated Yuri Foreman, enroute to a 9rd TKO. Cotto was awarded the WBA Jr. Middleweight Title. Mr. Arum upon entering the ring, seemed more concerned with his fallen fellow *** Foreman this his star pugilist, Cotto.

Finally, it all came to a head. As a proud Cotto went to shake hands with his fellow promoter Bob Arum, the look out anger, disgust, disappointment and disregard by Mr. Arum was on full display and he gave a disinterested handshake and congratulations to Cotto. Does he hate Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rican fighters? Is it because he is not White, not a ***, not a Mexican, Filipino or Black? Let us continue.

We now reach the near end of my presentation, I will conclude with some final points of evidence and let you all be the judge. We find ourselves at an empasse for Pacquaio-Mayweather. Mr. Arum has once again said Cotto or Margarito possibly as options for Pacquaio if a Mayweather bout does not take place. Arum and Pacquaio people would once again like a catchweight imposed on Cotto for the potentially newly created 150-151 LB WBA Jr. Catchweight Title. On the other end, a Margarito match may be in the cards however, no catchweight of any sort appears to be in the cards if a match were to be made. As well, as it appears for a long while now, Mr. Arum appears to be favoring the Mexican Margarito over his star Puerto Rican pugilist to get the match even though Margarito has come off of his criminal suspension and attempted murder to have 1 soft matchup and now gets a potential big time payday. Is it because he is Mexican? Does Mr. Arum hate Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rican fighters? Does Mr. Arum enjoy law-breaking and potential murderous acts? Remember Arum was on the HBO special, Assault in the Ring, where NY Puerto Rican Luis Resto was found guilty of loading gloves vs. Billy Collins and he savaged the guilty and evil that Resto did.......do you need anymore proof yet? This as well brings us to this weekend, where we have PR star Juan Manuel Lopez. He is also a part of Top Rank. Would you advise Lopez to immediately leave Top Rank after this bout, due to his hatred of Puerto Ricans and go to friendly territory, potentially to Don "The Black Mafia" King who has been very friendly to the Puerto Rican establishment, i.e. his very friendly relationship with fellow Black Puerto Rican, Felix "Tito" Trinidad.

I have presented my case. I would really like to hear you fellow boxing fans case. Please understand, this is a very serious thread. I'm looking for really serious boxing arguments and discussion in this topic. Once again for all:

The Question is: Bob Arum hates Miguel Cotto. Bob Arum Loves Antonio Margarito. How and why is this?

Boxers hoped to be with a promoter that offers the most money. Current and past champions were able to promote themselves hoping to keep the rest of the money for themselves. Some did not. Not all promoters can deliver a complete package.

You beat me to it. Arum doesn't love any of his fighters personally. Not even Pacquiao. He loves what they can do for him. I remember the days when Arum used to sing Oscar Delahoya and Mayweather's praises in the same way he does for Pacquiao. I'll tell you what, if Pacquiao leaves Arum he will sling mud at Pacquiao like he has towards every other fighter that has left him.
