Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman: Yankee Stadium is The Event

By Cliff Rold - It’s not the “House that Ruth Built” anymore. Not quite. Old Yankee Stadium is gone now, the latest casualty of the encroachment of tomorrow. There will be those who say it’s about greed, about money, damn the history.

    They’d be right.

History doesn’t pay as well as luxury boxes. It isn’t erased by new structures either and, as New York sports fans well know, the name is where the value ultimately lies.

Given its long existence, today’s Madison Square Garden probably feels like an inseparable part of the New York landscape. It’s not. It is simply the latest version of the Garden to exist, Garden IV for the purists.

Inside it’s hallowed halls though, it’s just the Garden. Even if all the spirits inside it may not have played on the very same court, may not have battled at the very same ring center, it’s still the Garden. The legacy of the name is as valuable as the ground itself.

It is with that feeling that this Saturday’s HBO show will take place. The sight lines might not be what they were for Gehrig and Mantle, for Ali and Norton, but by God it’s still Yankee Stadium. It will say so on the ticket stubs. [Click Here To Read More]

Cliff is the best boxing journalist right now. With Jake Danovan right behind him.

                  Totally agree!!! Great Article!!!

It kinds of make you want to see the fight right now, today, not only because of the fight but because of the Stadium and how it's going to play out.

Looking at the layout for this fight, ring will be placed at shallow right field, I guess to take advantage of the upper decks in that corner. I hope that whoever buys tickets doesn't get the seat behind the yellow foul pole JAJAJA. You never know they might remove it for the fight but not sure if that's possible.

Anyway it should be a great fight in a great atmosphere!!!

i think that this is foremans toughest opponent to date. a lot of people are saying Cotto is shot. I think he still has something left and i think he will show it saturday. Im pulling for Foreman in this one, but truly he is a Jr. Middleweight Malignaggi with no power. Hope to see a great battle.
