  • Comments Thread For: Joe Greene Plans For a Coming Out Party Against Vanes

Junior-middleweight contender Joe Greene Jr is not the type of fighter that generates much hype. It's not that he doesn't know how to fight - he's simply a low-key guy that doesn't draw much attention to himself away from the ring. [Click Here To Read More]

I've seen a lot of Joe Greene. Very talented South Paw. Has a tendency to get wild at times, but he shows improvements every fight. I expect for him to keep his left hand high, avoid Martirosyan's big lead right hook and show off his boxing skills. Wouldn't surprise me if Greene won. I'm actually predicting Joe Greene will win.

The undercard has some good fighters on it. I'm excited to see Jorge Diaz as well as the Pawel Wolak vs. James Moore fight.

Rofl at evryone "wouldn't be surprised" and "hoping" Greene beats vanes... Joe hasn't been jn the ring with anyone close to vanes' competition and stands no chance to beat vanes and you guys know it too, hence hoping and not being surprised instead of knowing and being sure lol

thats probably becuz vanes has a hype machine behind him. and greene has a mid-level promotional deal. I have seen maybe 2 fights of greene's and didnt come away impressed. and not to mention the perceived gift vanes got against ouma.

please stop acting like vanes is a world beater. while not seeing much of greene, i have seen enough of vanes to know he will be fringe max. may get a paper belt d/t vacancy.

I wish everyone would get off of vanes' balls for thr ouka fight. Depending on if youre a vanes hater or not u saw the fight either 6-4 for vanes or 5-5... Thats ancient history!!! PBF got a gift decision vs JLC too, nobody ****in remembers that, do they? As far the hype job is concerned name me a top boxer, past or preaent who didnt have a grrat promoter behind him... You cant because those fighters dont exist. There is a reason why vanes is promoted by top rank and greene is promoted by some company that noone has heard of.

Shane Mosley was promoted by Cedric Kushner at a time when the top fighters were with Don King or Top Rank. Even the now-defunct America Presents was holding bigger weight than Kushner in the late 90s.

Roy Jones was self-promoted through Square Ring for most of his career. He signed with Don King briefly when he fought John Ruiz, only giving up rights to promote his heavyweight bouts. That's probably why Jones never returned to heavyweight.

Greg Cohen, who is the CEO for Empire, does a lot of business in the New York area so perhaps the Greene camp felt comfortable with the signing. It did after all result in him fighting Martirosyan on HBO, no?

Lets not forget something here. Greene is the "opponent" here. Lets just say that greene is not the reason hbo is airing this fight. This is a top rank card and is vanes' chance to shine on hbo and get himself signed with hbo... Greene is a good fighter but no way does empire entertainment have the pull with hbo to have their fighter be showcased on there.
And for all those you mentioned that didny necassirly have a huge promoter behind there tens more that do ( i.e. Oscar, floyed before he got really big, sergio martinez, pacquiao, holyfield, tyson etc etc etc and the list can go on forever)
