Props to all the future stars, it's to bad this sport has fallen so much that people don't pay attention to the Golden Gloves anymore. Gloves use to pack arenas.
On the National level, these young fellas are dedicated and it's one hell of a tough road to go from local gloves to national. Much respect to them all.Comment

its a tough road. in new york, you get used to fighting once a week in the nyc gloves, then you go to the nationals and its everyday. thats a lot of wear and tear on the body. you cant just be in great fight shape- you have to be in great tournament fight shape and fight smart enough not to take punishment to impair your body for your next fights.Originally posted by AddiX View Post
Evander was in perfect standing to enter the Olympic Trials in '84, but entered the Gloves anyway. Had he lost, he could have jeopardized his olympic eligibility, but he said "you ain't nothing unless you win the Gloves." Sure enough, he won the gloves and went on to win a bronze at the olympics and become on of the greatest Cruiserweight and Heavyweight Champions of the modern era.Comment

True that man, I was going to do the gloves a few years ago in NYC and had to be honest with myself that I wasnt sure If I could stay in shape and at weight for the entire tournament. People don't realize that once you decide to do the gloves you need to stay in shape for almost a half a year straight.Originally posted by mspiegelo View Post
You win one fight and than your on to the next one. My old gym upstate had some guys that competed in the past years, it was non-stop training. I hate to say it though but the NY Amateur boxing scene has really fallen off.Comment

They shortened the Gloves this past year...they need to play the damn bouts on TV already!

yea marcus is a beast. he lost a close won i heard. i fight out of brotherhood boxing in ridgewood. he had three finalists this year in 178-open (lost to Marcus), 132- open (lost to marlon brown) and I won at 178-N.Originally posted by -EX- View PostComment
