If you are fighting a power puncher, you necessarily cannot train for his punches. It's either you can take his shots or cannot. No two ways about it.

But slick or a counter puncher you must train immensely for them. You need to work on cutting the ring better and your timing must be a lot better. You just cannot waltz right into a bout without tasting someone with great movement and speed.

This is why I think Froch/Kessler and AA were not able to adapt at all to Dirrell and Wards style. I think it was like a style shock to them. Neither three have ever fought someone with the movement and handspeed of these guys. They were basically inexperience against these types of fighters. While all Dirrell/Ward had to do was withstand their punchers and they would win.

I agree with your post except for the bolded part.

You can tighten up your defense, work on movements, speed and timing when you fight punchers.
Sparring with big punchers can help too. If you're used to get hit with sparrings like Mayorga and Maidana for example, the punches that Valero is gonna land on you won't shock you and make you lose your composure and confidence like it should.

good thing you aren't a trainer.

you don't just go in against a power puncher without training for him.

              Of course, you train.

I am more talking about the punches. You can develop a plan to beat it but eventually it will come down to the fighters able to take a punch.

if they can't land, then you won't have to worry about taking the punch.
