    As to my point, that's why Lidocaine is Floyd's breakfast for champions staple, it's evident after 130lbs. Makes me think wildly sometimes when people claim Hatton was knocked out by the ringpost twas true
    It is obvious to any observant person, that Hatton knocked himself out by rushing headfirst into the ringpost. If it hadn't been padded, he might have fractured neck vertebrae.
    As it was, you could see the way he rebounded from the post . it was a terrific crash.

    Of course Mayweather's punch helped, but it alone would not have been able to render Hatton unconscious, and it is futile for Mayweatherites to suggest it would.

    As for the question of whether a fighter can carry his punch up in weight, the many arguments I've read sem to me to be incorrect to a large degree, since the main factors which govern the ability of a fighter to unload a KO punch, have not been addressed, and have more to do with physics and delivery than anything else.

    i don't want to get into it.

      The guys at the higher weight classes just has a higher punch resistance than those in the lower weight classes.

      Common sense. You gain muscle , you are bigger , you don't have to cut as much or diet as much to make weight equals you punch harder , even if only a little.

      Unfortunately , the guys in the higher weight divisions can take a punch better as well so it depends on how much power you gain by moving up in comparison to how much more punch resistance your opponent has in your new weight division.
      It's in a p4p sense. You gain power, but not as much as a boxer in the weight class naturally. In some causes if you got the bone structure you can fill in nicely.

      I found when I gained weight i got a bit slower and less agile, I also got tired quicker. I main thing to leave is speed though. You usually get heavier punches though. Hey, sometimes speed is the power though.

      like the above poster, a good puncher is one that can land accurately and has good timing.

      Foreman was not just a slugger, he was doing something else that most people can't see at first. He had accuracy and knew how to time you.

        i always thought of a punch like the whipping of wet towel

        if your a strong(explosive i should say) individual and can whip your arm properly with that added weight, then yea, you'll have increased power
        but if your not naturally already very explosive, your technique will suffer, thus your power

        if you've boxed and actually tried these things you'd know what im talkin about
        sometimes it takes a little getting used to the weight, having your body get accustomed to it and adapting when you've put it on too fast

          this is why people need to study and go to school.....

          Force = mass x acceleration
          acceleration = speed / time

          that means the more mass you have, the more power you will get....

              That's because they are naturally weak punchers.

                ppl seem to forget, flyd was never a power puncher. what he is is a spped/precision puncher. so his style relies on both speed and precision. when he moved up in weight, im sure his speed decreased, even if it was slight. that definitely took a little off his punches. so for ppl to say that you dont lose punching power when u move up is highly inaccurate. it depends on the fighter and their style.

                  lol, go back to school...if u did, would learn that even if an object is heavier, if it moves slower it may cause less damage than a smaller object, moving faster. for instance, drop a penny from 10 stories. then go drop a bigger rock from 3 stories. see what causes more damage.

                    men get stronger till the age of 35.

                    its the cardio, flexibility and speed that begins to deteriorate from age 21.

                      Floyd is more powerful at 147 than 130.

                      His speed is what caused the guys at the lower weights to get hurt.

                      At 147 he clearly hasn't been as attacking. He is msot likely stronger, but with his stlye and the fact that most people at 147 can take hits, he didn't get the KO's.

                      Remember that Floyd not only has to hit much more harder to KO someone at 147 than at 130, his style has also become mroe defensive since he is fighting bigger guys.
