Comments Thread For: Weekend Thoughts: with Pacquiao we are witnessing history

By Lee Groves - Boxing’s first big weekend of 2010 has now passed into the cosmos and, improbably, Manny Pacquiao’s star has gotten even brighter.

His comprehensive decision victory over Joshua Clottey – as well as other action throughout the weekend – inspired plenty of thoughts from the Home Office and this time I’m going to work my way back in time. So without further delay, here is this week’s collection of synaptic soliloquies. [Click Here To Read More]

It is unbelievable the stylistic transformation a wild left hand dependent slugger has made. Pacquiao can literally do anything offensively, and gets better by the fight at using that offense at the right time.

I feel privileged as a boxing fan to see a fighter like Manny Pacquiao, and I hope and hope for Mayweather-Pac.

There's nothing I could say about the Manny P-Clotty fight that hasn't been already said, Even though the article writer is usually scrupulously accurate, he sells Clotty short in one area; Clotty is usually very accurate with his rare attacking forays.

As for the tired old, highly inaccurate "news" of Peter's "3 knockdowns" of Wladimir Klitschko, one would think that a reporter of Lee Groves' stature would accurately report that the first KD was a very blatant rabbit punch, remarked on by the commentating team, the second being not even a punch, but a shoulder "grab" and shove down, whilst the 3rd was a near miss culminating in a backwards stumble to the ropes, and subsequent catapulting to the canvas. From which, Klitschko rose immediately, and continued with the boxing lesson, in which he was constantly battering Peter.

That the referee, Randy Neumann, was completely incompetent and blind, didn't help.

Facts should be delivered fairly and accurately.

I felt priveleged to witness this dude with my own eyes, in my own time. Generations will be envious with the fact that they will only read it from a book. The Mother__cker is an All Time Great. No doubt!!!

I didn't find the last victory impressive at all. He was an 8-1 fav and barely landed one super clean punch. all he did was throw punches and barely land. Can't land on Clottey? good luck on Mayweather. and Mayweather is about twice as fast and will hit Pac with the left uppercut. he's wide open for it

Happy to hear from you...here is the basis for my statement regarding Clottey's accuracy in comparison to Mayweather's. Floyd landed 59 percent of his power shots against Marquez, 57 percent against DLH and 49 percent against Zab Judah, three pretty fair defensive fighters. Clottey did well against Cotto (41 percent) but was not as good against Judah (31 percent). He landed 35 percent of his power shots against Pacquiao. So while Clottey was good in spots against Pac, Floyd's numbers are consistently better.

OK so Clottey goes tooth and nail with Cotto and Margarito but gets blown out by Pac and your'e not impressed. Holy crap, what more can I say.
