Comments Thread For: Edwin Valero-Antonio DeMarco: Post-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - He can punch.

And, hell yes, he can fight.

With a litany of opposition which for the most could not bring the full range of his qualities to the surface, questions were rightly raised about just how much more than a puncher WBC Lightweight titlist Edwin Valero (27-0, 27 KO) could be.

The evidence on Saturday night suggested he could be much more.

It was hard to gauge where Valero was in his only other serious set up fights. Vicente Mosquera was a good fighter when Valero won the WBA belt at 130 lbs., even came off the floor in the first to drop Valero, but he didn’t have enough firepower to close. Antonio Pitalua, a solid veteran whom Valero knocked out to win his Lightweight diadem last year, got run over before a fight could break out.

Antonio DeMarco, younger and skillful, looked like as good a man as any to get a more meaningful read on the Venezuelan YouTube sensation. DeMarco did just that, to his detriment. [Click Here To Read More]

I wasnt impresed with valero. He showed good power good speed but still very crude. He would get tagged when ever demarco threw a hard jab and getting caught in the middle of exchanges. demarco was just not throwing
enough punches. If he faces a bigger puncher i think he would fall. But the biggest chalenge out there is funeka. If he beats him i will be impresed but i doubt he would win that one.

strange, since Arum was calling Valero an idiot not that long ago.
Arum said Valero claimed his visa was cancelled because he had a tattoo of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who is anti-US, on his body.

“He got caught for drunk driving after the Hatton fight and when he came back to the US they wouldn’t give him a visa. To compound the problem the idiot said it’s because he was wearing a Hugo Chavez tattoo on his chest. So, that makes two idiots from Venezuela.”

Arum’s remark drew laughter from the press, and then the Top Rank president said, “I’m 78 years old. I can say whatever I want to say.”
