Comments Thread For: Dmitry Pirog-Eric Mitchell Set After Aaron Withdraws

Russian middleweight Dmitry Pirog won’t fight Aaron Mitchell in the eliminator bout for the IBF title on February 6. Instead he will step into the ring against Mitchell’s twin brother Eric. Aaron was injured during the training, and that’s why the swap of the opponents was agreed upon. [Click Here To Read More]

Eric Mitchell is a hard puncher. He has an early KO of former IBF super middleweight champion Berrio on his record. But Dmitry is probably too smart of a boxer to get caught.

The KO of Berrio was seven years ago and that was the last time Mitchell KO'd anyone above club-fighter level. Mitchell is now 40, but it will probably be a good learning experience for Pirog, who should win handily.
Hopefully he'll get a title shot in the next year because the division could really use some new blood at the top. Who knows how long Pavlik and Sturm will stay at middleweight, and Sylvester and Huggy Zbik are not the answer long term.
