Comments Thread For: Barry McGuigan Slams Ricky Hatton's Comeback

Former featherweight world champion Barry McGuigan has cast doubts over Ricky Hatton's comeback plans. The popular pundit believes that Ricky is making a mistake and should only return if he intends to take on a smaller, risk-free opponent. [Click Here To Read More]

Have a lot of respect for McGuigan, the Clones Cyclone knows what he is talking about. Hatton shouldn't even be considering getting back into the ring until he's in tip-top shape...which I'm not even sure is possible now.

Apparently, Ricky is trying to convince himself that he's still got what it takes. Can't say I blame him. He wants to go out on top with a significant win and not with the public perception of his devastating losses.

If he loses big in his next outing, it won't help him much.

This is the second or third time McGuigan has said this, Hatton is a grown man and isn't going to listen to him anyway, so why keep going on and on?

But let's face it, Ricky is beyond past it. His body is totally out of shape and his psyche never recovered from the Floyd defeat. Look at the Pacquiao fight, all that build up how Mayweather Snr had turned him into a complete fighter, how he was going to box, fight clever etc etc and then when the bell rings that all evaporates and he decides to ******ly walk thru Pac's punches and gets whupped senseless then KO'd (IMO it was a mercy KO because he was going to get battered if that fight continued). He is finished and should retire a rich and reflect on a very successful career.

if u were in his shoes, is getting KTFO brutaly in 2 rounds the way u would want to leave the sport?

I'll give him my support, im curious to see what he has left. I think he may surprise a few people. He isnt gonna get back into the p4p list, but he's capable of beating most of the 140 division - if he can fight at 140. I dont wanna see him at 147, and i dont wanna see JMM there again either so hope that isnt the plan.

Im even more curious about who is gonna train him.

The annoying thing is that if he wins at 140, Mayweather will come calling looking to cash in on a fight at 147.

Dude don't get me wrong, I like Hatton, he's a funny guy and a gutsy fighter. I think he had a great career for his level of talent - you could even argue he over achieved. What more can he do? You want to see him take one KO too many? You think he could whup Marquez? I think you may be surprised how easily Marquez deals with him. Even Khan would find it easy pickings. I say that Hatton has a done everything he can and should retire while he has his health and a bank balance most of us could only dream of.
