Guys like the Original Joe Walcott or Mysterious Billy Smith is simply not going to make modern lists. Its hard to rate fighters from the bare knuckle era when there is little film around and when due to racial reasons didnt always fight each other. As a result, some of the best black fighters only fought other black fighters and the same as whites.

I do like that atleast recent fighters are being acknowledged. A few of them i do believe are in my top 175.
I'm not sure I understand your post. This list is about the last decade.

You're right...I confused his being ethnic Korean with born in Korea...gracias.

Vargas-Wright was in the final days of 1999...just missed being part of this decade.

Hatton got some beneficial officiating late in the fight, so a claim of robbery would rest there in Lazcano but not in the scoring.

As to the last comment, three fighters who won FOTY (Forrest, Toney, Trinidad) missed the cut after voting and further editorial discussion. They each had great respective years, but their decade work was lacking.

Cliff Rold is a nice guy but I won't be surprised if he's on here a couple days from now explaining why Joe Calzaghe is #4 and Shane Mosley is #11. We all have our biases.

I don't know if you noted it, but this isn't "my" list like others are. Voting was conducted amongst various members of the staff. Seven fighters were unanimously found on all ballots submitted in various orders. Others were on one or two. Calzaghe is a obviously top ten based on what's revealed so far and was one of those seven names. He was in roughly the same spot (to be revealed) on all of them, as well as in the choices of Tom Hauser in another outlet (http://www.hbo.com/boxing/features/f...er_decade.html). I don't really have to explain anything; there's just a school of thought you disagree with.

just had a quick look at the list (didn't go into the reasons that the author gave). imo lewis and mosley deserve to be ranked alot higher. lewis's best win was vs klit and wins over tyson, tua and grant are not to be smirked at. as for mosley iv always said that his resume doesn't do him justice, he took on guys that DLH, pbf, cotto and berto wouldn't go near against (winky and forrest).

winky and hatton are already ranked way too high on the list. winkys best wins over mosley and tito are both over smaller fighters who he could dominate with the jab, when he was in against better fighters he found it hard to pull something extra out. his losses to vargas, hopkins, JT and his drubbing at the hands of williams should mean hes somewhere in the 20's imo.

as for hatton his losses have come to the elite so maybe i am being too harsh on him but imo he is not as good a fighter as his resume suggests and toney, lewis, tszyu and a few others should be ahead of him.
