  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather-Pacquiao: MGM Grand Has The Edge To Host

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that at this point the MGM Grand has the edge in the bid to land the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight for the ages on March 13 although Dallas Cowboys owner Gerry Jones is vying for the right to stage the multi-million dollar fight at the new state-of-the-art $1.2 billion Cowboys stadium in Dallas, Texas. How the hell can Arum pass up on a place that could sit over 100,000 people?
If Juan Diaz fills up the freakin Toyota Center in Houston,TX imagine what 2 huge names can do in Texas...

I would go for the place that seats 100,000 rather than the one that sits 30,000 in Vegas, but hey I understand Vegas has the casinos and all the other fun ****, plus theres a huge amount of money to be made with the bets and what not.

Leave it to boxing to suck any profit off the biggest event in the sport in maybe over 25 years. Instead of packing a huge stadium they will settle for the 18,000 seat stadium that a casual fan would have no shot getting into. Instead of putting it on a network that would branch out to everyone they will keep it on PPV and charge a high amount for it. Instead of giving us showcase fights on the undercards they will give us bull **** fighters that have no future of being good in the sport. The sport of boxing will continue to hurt itself by having the dumbest people running it.

More than they could do in Kinshasa, Zaire.

When there's a big fight, there'll be plenty of activities surrounding it. There should be plenty of concerts before and after, nightclubs, strip clubs, restaurants, etc.

The 100K atmosphere for the actual fight would more than makeup the difference.

more than likely it will be in vegas. i like the dallas idea just cause it was different. back in the 60s and 70s big fights were held all over even in different countries.

I was hoping it would be in Texas, so there'd be more tickets. I don't know if I can go if its in Vegas.

Wrong on all counts. They'll make more money keeping it in Vegas because they'd be able to charge $350-500 for nosebleed seats and sell those out easily, not to mention all the other casinos and venues who will sell tickets on closed circuit telecast seats.

The only way they'd make more money on network TV is if the networks could guarantee Super Bowl type ratings, which won't happen though this is a giant fight.

And why are you complaining about the undercard when the main event isn't even official yet?

I live in Vegas and with that new City Center right across the street from the MGM. It's going to attract a lot of tourist. That place is huge.

I can't wait until the fight. Hope I'm lucky enough to get tickets for the fight
