WBA heavyweight champion David Haye says Amir Khan should not overlook undefeated Dmitriy Salita. Some have said Khan, the WBA junior welterweight champion, is looking past Salita by discussing potential bouts with Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and others. I've seen Salita fight live a few times and yes, he can fight and has some skills. My biggest concern is that he is not a big puncher and has some defensive liabilities when he crouches low and gives up his height.
I was at his fight with Grover Wiley and remember being underwhelmed by the performance. Salita was hurt a couple times early by a guy not considered a big puncher. He did come back in the later rounds to create some distance between him and his opponent so he has heart. He also showed a lot of heart to get off the floor twice against Ramon Montano and salvage a draw.
Khan would be best advised not to overlook Salita.Comment
