Malacanang to assist boxer Gorres

MANILA, Nov. 17 (PNA) -- Malacanang will give all assistance necessary to Filipino boxer Z “The Dream” Gorres who is currently recovering in a hospital in Las Vegas.

He collapsed minutes after winning a unanimous decision over Columbian Luis Melendez at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Resort and Casino over the weekend.

He was pronounced out of danger after undergoing emergency surgery at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada to drain blood from his head and relieve pressure on the brain.

In a press briefing, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the government will provide Gorres the help that he deserves in accordance with the country’s laws.

“Definitely we want to take care of him,” Remonde said adding that the boxer gave honor to the country.

The 27-year old Gorres is the World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) No. 3 bantamweight contender.

Doctors had placed him in an induced coma to stabilize his condition. (PNA)
