While this week's showdown between Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao is a truly salivating prospect, I wondered what the hype would be like if Floyd Mayweather was in the opposite corner to the Filipino wrecking machine. It would arguably determine the best pound-for-pound fighter of this generation, but in all probability this fight will never happen. [details]

Boxing is better than MMA and we're not about to change the sport that we love, if we're on top now after being here for 100s of years then we must be doing something right. If MMA wants to catch up to Boxing then let them but the hardcore boxing fans aren't switching no channel to no MMA fight.
I like boxing because my pops likes boxing, so i guess if i have a son he will like boxing because I like boxing and that will continue for generations to come. Boxing is in my blood.
It was a good read however.

Well boxing has already experimented with something along these lines with the super 6 tournament.
I agree with the writer about having a tournament style structure for every division but would like to add that in MMA there are incentives for fighters who take chances and rewards entertaining fights.
In MMA there are huge bonus checks awarded for fight of the night and KO of the night. This would reward figthers who bring the fans entertaining fights and penalize fighters who fight boring fights for the sake of that magic 0 in the loss column.

MMA is really pissing me off....everyone needs to realise that boxing doesnt need to change anything....MMA is no where near as popular as boxing around the world...sure it might be gaining ground in the states but thats about it....however i do support tournaments like the super 6....MMA has reached the height of its popularity and its not going to get any bigger....so everyone just chill...boxing was, is and always will be the no.1 combat sport

MMA is catching up to Boxing? LOL.LMAO.Haha.Hehe. The Sears center sold out(13,000) for a guy from Siberia, Russia who does not speak English. ON CBS. Don King sold 1,200 tix for a World Championship fight in the same Arena. Please get your heads out of your ass because jealousy is a bad thing and people like YOU here are killing a once great sport by your IGNARANCE. Wake UP.

I hate these pro MMA articles..using MMA's style of doing things will not work for Boxing. People think they have a quick fix solution to everything. If MMA is catching up to Boxing why did a fight like Mayweather vs JMM kick MMA's butt in PPV buys? and how does a fight in Germany or UK sell out STADIUMS full of people? when was the last time you heard of an MMA event that attracted 50,000 people? One of the reasons Boxing has lost some of its luster in the US is because we don't have an American HW champ. Boxing is a global sport and we need to include the rest of the world when talking boxing not just the US.

PRIDE Shockwave 2002, btw, had 91,108 spectators, and PRIDE Final Conflict 2003 had over 67,450 people in the audience. I think that's well over 50 000, wouldn't you agree?
