If Jones is fighting a tough opponent his own size, why can't Hopkins?

What about Toney vs Hopkins, next year at cruiserweight?

Dawson is such a sucker for right hands which is Bernard's best punch. If the Hopkins that beat Pavlik shows up against Dawson, he'd beat him easily in my view. The only way Dawson wins that fight is if Hopkins really has grown old overnight. Dawson strikes me as a mentally weak fighter who's not that good on the inside. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the fight unlike Mayweather fans don't want to see a Mayweather-Mosley fight. But if the fight gets signed, I'll be willing to bet all my points on Bernard.
I agree with most of your points, but I see Dawson as a more improved version of Jermain Taylor, a fighter who Hopkins went life and death with on two occasions.
The Pavlik win was good, but a tough, come forward fighter with slow hands like Pavlik is tailor made for a counter punchers like Hopkins, Toney etc.

This is all that matters and only one side was stopping it from happening.

Toney still wants it to happen.

I bet he does. But he's washed up and it would prove nothing.

I'm disappointed that a Roy Jones-Bernard Hopkins fight got more votes in that one poll that people are talking about than a Dawson-Hopkins fight. The fans have to demand it to happen. And back to my other point. I wouldn't have been suprised to see Hopkins fight Dawson instead of Roy Jones if HBO would've scheduled the Dawson-Johnson rematch in the August-October time frame.

Is Dawson gonna be ready to fight Hopkins in January? Roy has become a throw back fighter when it comes to ring activity. What has happend to our big name American fighters that are young? Pavlik has only fought once this year. Williams will go through a period of inactivity because of that. And why did Dawson need to take a 9 month layoff since the Tarver fight? Hopkins not jumping at the opportunity to fight Dawson after Chad beat Tarver has a lot to do with him wanting to move up and win another title in a bigger money fight against Adamek.

Dawson and Johnson are tied up at 175, Tarver is retired, Cloud just fought as did Diancou and Pascal.

So from 160-175...name me a top guy that isnt tied up that b-hop could face in december given such a short notice?
                  Sakio Bika?

Yeah, Hopkins tried real hard to make that fight happen. Hopkins just wants a payday, that's all. Not a challenge. Let's not sugarcoat it.

Adamek would've been a dangerous opponent to Hopkins too. If you don't think so, then you are discrediting Chad's victory over him. He knocked Dawson down and might've finished him off if he had a few more rounds to do it. And not only that, he's a better fighter now than he used to be. Chad Dawson can't bring any money. It's unfortunate, but it's a fact.
