Comments Thread For: David Benavidez and family: A boxing story of tears, tenacity and trust

David Benavidez started his boxing journey as the overweight kid brother but is now on the cusp of superstardom ? thanks in part to his father's persistence and unwavering faith.

How can you say he wasn't talented when this guy beat up World Champions as a kid while displaying ridiculous handspeed and unmatched natural fighting instincts. He looked like a seasoned veteran in some of these sparring clips sparring pros with 13-15 years old. That is pure talent. Some people mistake being flashy with talent.

The fact he punked Ginger and made him full of excuses to not fight him is the best thing to me. Kid deserves his flowers, he made some dumb mistakes early on but corrected his self. Hope he continues to win.

Agree with you. Especially him finding back on the right path after it seemed he derails like so many other did before showed me his special character. If now he can stay a bit more disciplined in between camps and not get as fat then he will be a safe pick as a future ATG.

he effectively ended canelo's career and forced him into a series of bum fights for almost 5 years until his luck ran out against a tiny man moving up. thats pretty epic...maybe even operaration epic fury? it would have been nice to get canelo in the ring to beat him down to boost his popularity but canelo surrendered long ago

If there was any justice in the world DB would be the biggest boxing star in America right now because he would've already torn a hole in Canelo & or Bivol or Beterbiev, but the politics of boxing keep getting in the way.

This is why we can't have nice things

I remember when Jose Benavidez Jr was going to be the next big thing, and was training at Wild Card with Freddie Roach and had all the potential in the world.

Turns out the chubby kid David had the far better career of the two. Crazy how the world turns.

Bivol would have done to Mr. Pear Man exactly what he did to Zurdo.

That tiny man would have whooped Mr. Pear Man's ass too.
