Comments Thread For: On This Day: Anthony Joshua recovers to retire Wladimir Klitschko in modern classic

Wladimir Klitschko was 41 years old and had already been through the gears, so to speak, by the time he climbed into the ring ? for one of the first times as an underdog ? with ascendant star Anthony Joshua

Ahh yes the beginning of the Hypejobs shot 38-41 Yr old era, just after his can after can rise.
The only thing that beat Klitschko that night was father time. Aj was done in I think the 6th & he took a couple of rounds to recover. Unfortunately Klitschko at 41 was to old to finish the job exhausted himself.
A great fight that shouldn't have been especially as Fury toyed with Klitschko in a horrible fight 2 years earlier in Klitschkos back yard.

This is the one fight that should have had a rematch. What a fight it was!

I was mixed watching this fight. On one hand I was somewhat tired of the dominant but often boring bouts Wlad had. On the other hand, knowing all the hype AJ was getting prior to the match, I was hoping the old man had 1 great fight left in him. Despite losing, it probably was his last great fight. He put up a real good fight, but that extra youth in AJ allowed him to pull through.

Wladimir Kiltschko vs. Anthony Joshua 'is still the greatest heavyweight title fight of this era'.

Note: Many of Anthony Joshua critics, like to discredit Joshua for this win 'but in my opinion, it is an more impressive win than Tyson Fury's win over Wladimir Kiltschko'.

Anthony Joshua fought the version of Wladimir Kiltschko who Tyson Fury should have fought in their scheduled rematch 'but unfortunately he did not due to his then circumstance'.

Wladimir Kiltschko in the aftermath of his loss to Tyson Fury 'never retired, like certain people in the boxing community like to claim. Wladimir Kiltschko initiated his rematch clause vs. Tyson Fury'.

And proceeded to prepare for that fight, with a determination and ambition 'that I had personally never seen before from Kiltschko. Wladimir Kiltschko was a champion for almost 10 years, before he lost to Tyson Fury. And it was a injustice that he was never granted the opportunity to win his titles back from Fury, but? He was being given the opportunity to face Anthony Joshua the 2012 Olympic Champion, and? At the time of this fight with Wladimir Kiltschko, none of the narratives which surround Anthony Joshua today as a fighter existed.

Anthony Joshua was appearing to be a component elite level boxer, with a extreme high level of brute strength and power 'there did not appear to be any vulnerabilities in his game. Nevertheless this was his 19th professional fight, and he was fighting the last true all-time great heavyweight Champion at home in front of 90'000+ thousand spectators and millions of observers around the World'.

Wladimir Kiltschko by his own estimations was in his best condition ever vs. Anthony Joshua 'he weighed in at 240 pounds, vs. 245 pounds he weighed against Tyson Fury. By the time the fight took place, Wladimir Kiltschko had endured three back to back training camps, over a period of 17 months due to Tyson Fury continually pulling out of their rematch'.

Note: Let's make no doubt about it 'Anthony Joshua in his 19th professional fight, was stepping up to fight a battle which Tyson Fury started. This is a fact which people in the boxing community do not like to acknowledge, but it is a fact of boxing history'.

To conclude: On April 29th 2017, the Heavyweight Division was taken into a completely new dynasty 'after Anthony Joshua conclusively beat Wladimir Kiltschko, knocking him out and forcing him to retire'.

That is why I rated Anthony Joshua's win as a greater win than Tyson Fury's over Wladimir Kiltschko 'Fury won one fight vs. Kiltschko on points and then disappeared. The occupation of the Heavyweight Division by the Kiltschko's was damaged and breached by Tyson Fury, but it was dismantled by Anthony Joshua'.

Wladimir Kiltchko vs. Anthony Joshua 'is the greatest heavyweight title fight of the past 25 years. Kiltstcko even during a loss gained masses of credit for his efforts, and he could retire knowing that the Unified Heavyweight titles were now being aloft by a worthy Champion in Anthony Joshua' etc.

Probably the most titanic fight I've ever seen live. A true crossroads fight. Klitschko did really well in the middle rounds if I recall correctly. I'll never understand the hatred the Klitschkos get when they basically carried the heavyweight division for like ten years lol. IMO they saved heavyweight boxing until the arrivals of Fury, Joshua, and DDD .

                  Wlad got robbed.

That ref stopped the fight too early to protect the hype job.

Both men hit the canvas. Let them finish it out.
