Much of the reason why Ben Whittaker?s hype has gone to a new level in the past 12 months has been because he is now finishing his food rather than just playing with it, writes Elliot Worsell

Looking like he's getting protected for as long as possible before he fights someone who's the real deal. Sorry Eddie, I gotta see it against at least a 50-50. And there's lots of those in this division he aint been fightin. And I don't expect to see him in against. It'll be slow brawler after slow pressure fighter for 10 more fights won't it? Yes. Yes it will. If he's ever in against a slick speedy, that dude will either be small or old.

Itauma has 14 fights and way less experience from the amateurs and in general boxing experience since he is just 21 years old. There is a reason why Itauma promoted by one of the best matchmakers is moved so fast and Whitaker promoted by one of the risky/worst matchmakers is matched so slow and carefully despite him being in his physical prime and having an extensive amateur background.

Whitaker is labelled as not ready and i'm convinced that this was confirmed by Andy Lee to Hearn. For sure Lee will hype Whitaker up and tell the world he is already ready for all the guys. That is just a confidence builder and as Lee learned from Emanual he knows confidence is the most important component.

The division is deep from World to regional level. They can find relatively big names all over the world and even on different levels. They could match him next with Gallegos or even better if they think Whitaker is ready next year to fight Benavidez, Bivol or Beterbiev they might give him a little step up test against Najee Lopez or Coe. Next should be Khataev Buatsi, Smith, Hutchinson or Morrell.

But i know his next fight will be on the same level has his last 3 opponents and this will continue until they build his profile for a real big fight with a guy like Bivol or Benavidez but honestly i can see Hearn lining him up for Bivol. Worst thing he gets outboxed by a brilliant guy. Benavidez fight would be brutal and might career ending
