The fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Rico Verhoeven should not have any kind of championship belt attached to it, writes Paulie Malignaggi

I agree completely. Floyd's 'fight' against McGregor shouldn't have counted on Floyd's official record either, especially since that was Conor's first professional boxing match. At least Rico has one professional boxing fight, lol, but it's obviously a joke of a fight, and I agree that Rico is undeserving, and the fight is in fact pointless.
It should not be a title fight, but? If Oleksandr Uysk has signed to fight Rico Verhoeven, then no matter what is agreed legally 'Verhoeven is fighting the Unified and Lineal Heavyweight Champion of the World'.
Note: So I agree, the fight should definitively not be a title fight 'Rico Verhoeven is a novice boxer, and I personally don't think he is the level of threat Francis Ngannou was before he fought both Tyson Fury and especially Anthony Joshua'.
By the time Francis Ngannou fought Anthony Joshua 'nobody within the boxing community, could refer to Ngannou as a novice boxer. He had just fought 10 rounds vs. Tyson Fury, and won the fight on pretty much all the most important statistics'.
As I have stated in some of my previous posts, the four fights Oleksandr Uysk has had against Fury and Joshua 'have forced him into a perpetual state of semi-retirement. Since those fights I don't think he has displayed the appetite to be a great champion'.
Beating Daniel Dubois is not a all-time great win, in my opinion it is a completely overrated title defense 'the blue print on how to beat Dubos was already well known within the boxing community years before Dubois had his Any Given Saturday vs. Anthony Joshua'.
To conclude: Oleksandr Uysk is the most accomplished active fighter in the sport, but? I think he has been molly coddled by many people within the boxing community and media. This has now lead to this behaviour from him.
Neither Fury, Joshua or Wilder 'made such insignificant title defenses during their heavyweight reigns. The worst title defense Tyson Fury made was his third fight vs. Derek Chisora, and that fight was miles better than this fight vs. Rico Verhoeven'.
If Oleksandr Uysk wants to continue with this trend of match making, he should just vacate his belts etc.
