Comments Thread For: Seiya Tsutsumi outlasts Nonito Donaire, retains WBA title via split decision

A strong second half surge by Seiya Tsutsumi was just enough to prevent Nonito Donaire from once again making boxing history.? Tsutsumi barely turned away the legendary former four-division champ to claim a split decision and retain his WBA 118lbs title.

Sucks for these older guys trying to come back and put on one last great performance to inspire older folks and believe they can still do it. Though that's just it. At the end of the day, unless there is a fix in or some kind of favoritism, if you're keeping boxing grounded and scoring properly, it's a tough ask for these older dudes, especially in the lighter weight classes where throwing a lot of punches helps and obviously having your timing and reflexes there to compete with all the youth and speed coming at you.

Pacquiao getting a draw vs Barrios was probably a small victory in that at least he didn't lose to the much younger guy, but considering Barrios being the weakest link of the champs, it shows how difficult Pacquiao would have against the better talented champs at his advanced age. No different than anything Nonito would be dealing with as well.

This likely saves Donaire from a rough fight with Bam later on.

It was an excellent fight and both guys fought like Lions ! Neither Donaire or Tsutsumi has it in them to be in a boring fight. It's incredible how well Donaire is performing at 43. Whatever he is doing he's doing it right.

Even with age, Donaire had the power and quickness in the 1st half. He also fought a smart game. Flash is not built the same as other humans.

Tsutsumi always wins with relentless pressure and durability.

He always looks like he’s on the brink of death, then comes back with a second life. He’s also a freak of nature.
