“Living in the past makes you depressed sometimes,” he admitted. “Nostalgia, we love the past. I love the past. But if you get too caught up in it, you’d be depressed and that's why I think fighters sometimes get depressed when they retire".

That's another reason mental health care is important. There are risks involved all the time. Self harming, going into a sport where you know you will need hospital, everyone should have access to support.

Then again, boxing fans haven’t been known to be the sharpest across the sports spectrum.

I look back in fond remembrance of epic Malignaggi fights, such as.....well, there must be one, right? When Cotto broke his face? When he had to have his ridiculous hairstyle cut off during a fight? The public is dying to see more of that, right?

Is the public dying to see Rolly Romero or Lewis Crocker or Mario Barrios? Those are three WW belt holders.
Paulie beats all of them. Even at 45 years old.

I'm always amazed at how few people on this forum mention the mid-fight haircut. Probably because it happened in the UK and most Americans weren't watching. He was supposed to be showcasing himself before a Hatton fight and almost blew it!

I totally understand that feeling! As a former athlete myself, that competitive fire never really dies - it just smolders until something reignites it. Malignaggi's passion for combat sports reminds me of how I feel when playing intense basketball matches. Speaking of which, I've been getting my competitive fix through Basketball Stars lately. The platform really captures that same adrenaline rush and never-say-die spirit that fighters like Paulie embody.
