Decades later, Roy Jones Jnr continues to field questions about his missed opportunity fight with Dariusz Michalczewski. The boxing legend says that, if they were active today, the fight would have happened, thanks in large part to Riyadh Season financier Turki Alalshikh.

The money that turkey puts into boxing now was put into boxing by the last Vegas casinos in the 90s.

It's another slow month for boxing in a year of slow months. I wouldn't say boxing is in a great place.

Boxers like Floyd Mayweather started all of this crap by waiting until fighters aged out of their prime before taking risky opponents. Slowly we are getting back to a place where fighters aren't as afraid of losing their "Os" if there are more 0s behind what they are being paid. Promoters like Mayweather productions should be banned from the sport. Fighters should be encouraged to take the risky fights for the sake of their sport and their legacy.

You're not wrong. Last year was one of the best years I can remember as a fan of the sport (setting aside any misgivings about where the money was coming from to make it all happen and why it was being spent etc) but this year - barring one or two big events - has really hit a wall. Maybe we were spoiled by a year like 2024 where it felt like we were getting killer cards every weekend, but as much as last year 'gave', this year has 'taken' - massive gaps in the schedule, cards that have fallen flat, a return to bad matchmaking and easy fights for the A-side, and many more problems - in and out of the ring. In the US, Top Rank doesn't have a TV deal and PBC are no longer the force they were; in the UK Boxxer has imploded, and Sky - one of the biggest backers of boxing as a sport globally have seemingly left the table after 30+ years, and even Queensberry and Matchroom's schedules look relatively barren compared to years past (the quality of cards have definitely taken a dive this year). It's doubly depressing (and almost inexplicable) after such a good 12-18 months beforehand. I'm hoping the year suddenly turns itself around and finishes strong, but I feel like it's been a disappointing year for boxing fans so far.

It has been great for the top fighters, fights made that might never have been made.

I don't know if it's great for everyone in boxing, and concerns of a monopoly, but yeah, had a few great fights.
