The Super Six Begins: Post-Fight Report Cards

By Cliff Rold - With the first two of three first round bouts completed, the “Super Six” has produced its first breathtaking knockout and the first result which is leaving viewers breathless in debate.

The official results give us two winners, former IBF Middleweight titlist Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO) and WBC Super Middleweight titlist Carl Froch (26-0, 20 KO). Those victories give both men critical breathing room as they attempt to advance to the elimination rounds of the tournament but both will still have sizable obstacles in their path.

And for the defeated there are tantalizing questions. Did Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO), who started and finished strong against Froch, gather the critical learning experience which could make him a bigger threat down the road? Will Jermain Taylor (28-4-1, 17 KO), once the undisputed Middleweight king, be threatened into retirement by repeat viewing of his latest knockout defeat? [details]

Yeah I agree with your closing statement of course its a lot easier to dust off a loss when you are guaranteed your next two big fights to redeem yourself.

Yep. That's what I thought. It's nice to have two more big paydays ahead of you when you are a young prospect.

As long as its by KO, Dirrell could advance with one win. He's only going to improve.

It's the part of this I think a lot of people aren't grasping yet...all these dudes are just moving on to the next fight. The usual BS about 'exposed' is likely to be turned on its ear. This could all just be building to Kess-AA or be the graphic reminder boxing needs that 'styles make fights' is more than just words and that consistent tough opp will produce good and bad nights. No one can manipulate the draw here.

I agree with the overall sentiment of the article. It really is nice that a loss isn't career ending.

However, Dirrell won that fight. I feel very strongly about that. And while Dirrell was excessively holding, I don't see how an unbiased official could take a point away from Dirrell and not take a point away from Froch.

The locations of these fights has now become a bigger issue than I would like. It's just such a great event that it's soo difficult to see the wrong man declared the winner.

Nothing to do with where he's from. Neither guy landed a ton...Dirrell would have spots but he also missed a lot of shots. I could have scored half the fight even...there were more rounds where no one deserved credit than did.
