Comments Thread For: When Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao gobbled up the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya

For the first 45 or so fights of what is now officially a hall-of-fame career, Manny Pacquiao relied almost exclusively on his speed and physicality and a crude-but-devastatingly effective southpaw left hand...

Oscar was so far removed from his best day’s , that Pacquiao deserves little credit. Not to mention Oscar had to adhere to a CatchWeight . I hate it when boxer’s get credit for beating others past their due by date.

I wonder how Those ignoramus celebrating PAC's win would feel if the same PAC was to drop to 135 to fight Tank Davis.
Would they say PAC is old or 135 is a weight PAC hasn’t made in years or would they celebrate Tank as an ATG for obliterating their idol?

Oscar wanted higher and Manny wanted lower, 147 was where it landed, Oscar drained himself cant blame Manny for that, but it was a case of guy fighting at his correct ring weight, same as he was with a 129 weigh in, 144 fight night, and a guy that went to 154/60 for years and had not been at 147 for over 12 yrs and killing himself in the process, I blame Oscar it was a st_u_p_i_d thing to do, any of the top guys would have destroyed Oscar that night, it was the worst draining I seen since LaLonde and Chad Dawson.

I can't believe that word is censored here.

I remember reading about the lead up and Im pretty sure Manny wanted 144 in the beginning, they fought at 147 but Oscar didn't want that he wanted higher and Manny wasn't budging of 147, Oscar was retiring he already said before doing the Manny fight he was retiring.

I don't blame Manny at all he did what he had to do, but here is a curve ball, take the 154 Oscar who fought Floyd and was 18 lbs heavier than the 145 version Manny fought and I think Oscar would have run him over, Manny had great management they played the game milking match making and popularity to the max, allowed him a green card when there was so much going on.

This is not the article Im thinking of but it mentions bits.
Oscar De La Hoya, boxing's biggest star, will announce Thursday that he will meet pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao on Dec. 6, two sources close to the fight told ESPN.com.
