I think we collectively need to look at how Shakur performs against the big names he’s fought and how Bob let Loma duck him to truly judge how he will fight in the big spots.
Yes, when in with low reward, high risk guys he fought like he was the only one with something to lose- cautious, overly defensive, just enough to win and not risk getting hurt.
When in with Valdez, he looked every bit a star. I fully expect he would’ve done same, if not better, against Loma had he not ducked. I also expect same with Zepeda as you suggest. I think he beats Tank.
Shakur should be fine if he simply fights at a higher pace when in the showcase fights.
My theory will be tested against Cortina. Anything short of a dominant performance will not be good.

But what next?
Shakur tried to go the Tank route at 135lbs but he clearly doesn't have the right style or draw to have opponents come to him and I don't think they ever will.
As I see it, if Shakur wants big fights he'll need to move up to 140lbs were Match-room has depth and most of the former lightweights with names are. Unfortunately for Shakur, he's not a big guy that shrunk down to lightweight like Hanny and Teo. Not only does Shakur need to gain weight and fight bigger guys like Lomachanko did, but making matters worse, Shakur is a risk averse guy and the transition is not the same or even close.
In my opinion, 140lbs is very risky for a guy like Shakur......BUT that's were the money is, and nobody is going to give it to him.
I could be wrong, but I don't see another path to big fights.Last edited by factsarenice; 08-23-2024, 10:14 AM.Leave a comment:

Correction: the card is not stacked. It all about the headliner, and the rest is pretty much garbage, except the rematch between Wardley and Clarke.Leave a comment:

Makes really good sense business wise and opener wise. Now he will be in with more talented opposition that will force him to step his game up.
Looking forward to him v Zepeda after he destroys cortina.Leave a comment:

We see Hearn in Mexico one week, in Saudi the next, and so on.
He's got to be flying on a private Gulfstream with his crazy schedule.
That means big $$$. And he won't pay the fighter? Hmmmm....Leave a comment:
