Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz finds out that they don't all just go away

Although Vergil Ortiz will have adequately trained for it, and indeed one day expected it, still nothing can fully prepare a puncher for the first time their opponent soaks up everything they throw at them and hardly blinks. It is usually in this moment the puncher confronts self-doubt and wonders if it is even possible to win a fight without having made some sort of impression on or dent in the opponent in front of them. It is during this moment, too, that we sometimes see the puncher succumb to the panic and nervous energy and either punch themselves out in an effort to punch through this anxiety or simply collapse, often dramatically.

Props to both fighters for a FOTY candidate. I must say I was impressed with Ortiz how he swept the last three rounds in a dominant fashion. I noticed he slowed down quite a lot after the furious first three rounds, so I thought he gassed and spent his pennies too quickly. But then he came back when he needed to put the victory out of jaws of defeat. I thought the fairest outcome was the draw, although I must say if they fight again, I feel Virgil will win more convincingly because the scoring was altered by two flash knockdowns. As Ortiz was not really hurt, I cannot see that happening again in a rematch.

He'd very likely take a bad beating from Crawford, if they fought.

But the financial reward would be great, with Turki making sure of that.

          It better be next then.

Beating Jeff Horn and semi retire guys Khan, Porter, and Brook is not impressive.

he squeaked by in his first real battle of attrition. It's not going to get easier now that he's fighting guys his size. He's entertaining, but also sloppy and off balance.

Reminded me of when I passed my 9th grade Algebra test with flying colors.

Facts! Turki will make "him" an offer he can't refuse! I'm still skeptical that ODLH will let that happen? I think he knows he's not ready, but Vergil is thirsty! He wants those BIG fights ASAP! Tszyu is definitely a better option, but it still won't prepare Vergil for a fighter like Bud, or Boots!!!

Crawford looked better against Madrimov than Ortiz looked vs Bohachuk. And I think Madrimov is better than Bohachuk. Madrimov is the superior boxer and has better ring IQ.

I had Crawford beating him 115-113.

But I had Ortiz losing to Bohachuk 115-112.

I Crawford vs Ortiz happens next, Crawford wins by knockout.

Bud should be fighting Ennis and Ortiz vs Tsyzu is the fight to make. Main and co main event. I'd pay to see it.
