Comments Thread For: No shaking the similarities of Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Serhii Bohachuk

LAS VEGAS - Familiarity breeds contempt and maybe that's what was behind Vergil Ortiz Jr.'s decision not to shake the outstretched hand of Serhii Bohachuk to close their final news conference Thursday.

Sparring doesn't mean anything besides trying things, working on your timing and conditioning. You make get a bit of a feel for someone but it's not anything you're going to experience in an actual fight. And if you act disrespectful, don't expect to get respect back...

Sparring is no portent of things to come, the only thing it does is help each guy with the anticipation part where they know what the fighter's style, movements and next move might be. But that's an equal advantage. And kinda similar to AM fights. I'm sure there have been vegas rollers who put money on a fighter because he ran across an article showing one fighter beating another fighter in the AM's and bet on that fighter. The only science behind all this is that sometimes a guy gets the better hand in sparring, but not in a real fight, or own a win over a fighter in the AM's but lose as a pro. The only guarantee is unpredictability at times. Having said that, my pick is Ortiz early or Bohachuk late, leaning toward Ortiz in the one.

De la Hoya's face says it all... He's worried Bohachuk will derail the Ortiz train. And it could very well happen.

There was a time when i would have bet on Ortiz no matter the opponent but he has a past of questionable actions as far as and to do with his training and preps for a fight so he is now another fighter that could go either way inside the ropes. This respect thing he talks of is not a good way to carry yourself before a fight but maybe he needs to do that now that he is no longer convinced he is who he thought he was..................Let it rip inside the ring would be the way to prove you deserve respect although if you act respectful you will be treated accordingly in most areas..............

Feeling the same way. After his win against mean machine I thought he was on a fast track to the top of the division. Several postponements and the eventual cancellation of the stanionis bout, I’m not sure where he’s at. Partially because of his bouts with rhabdomyolysis and recently due to loeffler implying he hadn’t made his prefight weigh ins. Dulorme isn’t a good litmus test for the top tier of 154… guess we’ll see. Upset isn’t a stretch

I am not sure who wins this fight, but I can't wait to watch it. If I had to put my money on someone, I would say Ortiz. If Bohachuk has been stopped before, that can easily happen again. So far, Ortiz has not found a way to loose.

Getting stopped by Brandon Adams is a venture into knowing Ortiz can knock him out imo
