  • Comments Thread For: Paul Spadafora: The rebirth, the regrets, the hopes, and the dreams

Paul Spadafora's life spiralled so far out of control that he died. Five times. The former IBF lightweight champion has been brought back from beyond the brink - his life almost abruptly curtailed by the alcohol-drugs mixer he has been fending off with more success in recent years.

    This was a great read
Sounds really down to earth and all while dealing with his demons
Although I had Dorin winning that fight
I’m not so inclined to believe that Dorin didn’t want the rematch and not getting the fight , if I recall correctly , was the reason he retired and only came out against Gatti for that retirement pay

Shooting wifey can really mess up your public profile, I remember a quip being made that he tried hitting her first but she just laughed at his power.

All jokes aside, I swear Paul himself got shot in the leg as a teen so to be the fighter he was & have the career he had is at least somewhat miraculous.

Bless you Champ and your loyal woman too, here's to redemption.

I never knew much about him at all or seen him fight before I was to fight him although I did have a copy of one of his fights I found after our fight. I had never faced a white fighter with the smoothness and slickness. I would face him in Steubenville, OH on the undercard of my teammate Lonny Beasley vs Lonnie Bradley of NY for the WBO Middleweight Title. I would later run into him again on his rise up on the undercard of Sugar Ray Leonard Vs Hector Camacho in Atlantic City. I always followed him because he beat me and I gave up boxing after that loss so he was worth following in my mind. He had a lots of ups and downs but look at God, he's still standing and able to give back and those people in his former town had better learn to forgive or trust me there going to have a rude awaking of there own. I'm glad he's good and doing well and look forward to seeing him in Vegas which I use to frequent but not as much since my mother passed. The kid was physically strong too, but not a big puncher and I say kid because he was much younger than myself when we fought by like 8 years or so.

Substance abuse has stopped many from reaching their full potential.

Let alone potential but being alive is a big plus in his situation

He was a walking self-sabotage machine. I guess he is a reformed scumbag.
