Let me give you the scoop. Assuming Tank, his best payday available today, and fights Shakur on PPV, and the price to view at best is $49.95
I don’t think such PPV would not generate more than 150,000 buys
The PPV gross then is 12,000,000
cable networks and the consolidator take 50%
This leaves a net to the Promoter of 6,000,000
Tank is the A side and makes 4,000,000
shakur is the B side and makes 2,000,000
Promoter would have to settle for the live gate and International sales.
Given the fact that Shakur would be part of the main event, at best, a casino would give the Promoter a 4 wall deal, meaning the arena, rooms, food, and the gate. Say promoter can sell 15,000 seats at an average cost of $200 per ticket. That’s $3,000,000.
International sales would be around $150,000.00
Promoter has to put together a Co- main and undercard. Using a recent PBC event where, Tszyu v Fondora was the main event and the the Co-main featured Erislandy Lara a crappy Co which cost PBC 1,000,000.
After paying Tank 4M and boring Shakur 2M, the rest of the undercard, including a co-main event, Promoter is left with about 1,500,000.
I just gave you the best case scenario form Tank vs Shakur.
If TR offered Shakur a 5 fight deal for 15M, he and his people are fools for not taking that offer and running like thieves in the night because in any other fight, Shakur would be lucky to get paid 1M.and that alone is a losing proposition for any Promoter. Besides, most people would watch the fight on some live stream for free and instead get some weed, a bucket of KFC, and some Ripple and have call it a day.
Shakur’s boring ass style is a money loser for any Promoter, unless the Promoter want to use Shakur as the sacrificial lamb for another fighter that can make money with, and is willing to take the loss.
For any Promoter worth his salt, Shakur is a money loser, unless of course, like Floyd, you have a dance partner as the A side who generates big PPV buys. Floyd was one of those fighters who is lucky the stars were aligned just right during his run because he had DLH, Hatton, Pacquiao, Canelo, Cotto, and McGregor. That’s like getting 3 sevens on a slot machine or hitting the lottery. Floyd should thank his lucky stars because before DLH, Floyd was broke!

Even an old boxer like Loma is going to give him some problems cause he isnt going to be afraid of him after Shakur out boxes him the first 6 rounds. the fact that Shakur seems unsure about letting his hands loose will just give confidence to Loma. Good fight that Shakur should win by 2 points. I wouldnt be surprised to see Loma beat him though. Its not that Loma is better. Its that Shakur’s “timidness” could back fire with the judges.

Update to my July 9th post.
I made it very clear on my previous post that Shakur and his handlers would be fools not to accept TR offer of a 5 fight, 15M offer. As I said, Shakur’s non PPV value at 500K per fight would be generous, and his PPV as the B side, 1M would be overly generous. That’s how much a bust Shakur is for any Promoter crazy enough to offer him more than my figures above.
Since my post, Shakur has found no takers in GBP, Matchroom, or PBC, which should not surprise anyone.
I know Arum understand the business of boxing, unless of course of he’s going through Joe ***** type issues.
But, having given this more thought, I also realize that most reporters don’t bother to delve into details. What do I mean? Most if not all Promoter contracts contain a clause that reads; in the event the fighter loses a fight, the Promoter has the right to terminate or renegothe contract at the Promoters option.
It seems plausible to me, that Arum is offering Shakur what looks like a sweet deal, but in truth, perhaps he has a plan to throw Shakur to the wolves knowing he’ll get beat and in fact is looking to use Shakur as a sacrificial lamb? In other words, lose and you’re out. Keep in mind, Arum has never been fond of black fighters not named Muhammad Ali. Mayweather and Crawford left his stable and did or will do quite well once the right Hispanic dance partners are in the mix, and no, I’m not talking about Salsa dancers. If Arum had his way, his stable would be full of Hispanic fighters especially Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters. In Arum’s world, black fighters don’t sell tickets and PPV buys, which is where Bob makes his money.
I repeat again, Shakur, rather than doing a quick about face now that reality has set in and you realize that the only reason that GBP, PBC, Matchroom, we’re probably interested in you was to get Bob to overbid on your services because those promoters can’t stand Bob.
Look, get on your knees, tell Bob how happy you are to resign with him, tell him what a great promoter he is, roll a big one and smoke it with Bob before he comes to his senses and realize what a massive mistake he made offering you 5 fights for 15M. Don’t worry about being a lying hypocrite because Bob does that all the time. Oh, and while you’re at it, have someone who can read, go over the fine print.

Even Eddie Hearn couldn't match what ESPN pays for non-PPV fights. I have no clue how they (ESPN) do it. I remember when Hearn wanted Jose Ramirez for Conor Benn. Hearn was surprised to learn Ramirez was getting paid that much. Of course, the fight didn't get made. Crawford became a wealthy man getting $2 mil per fight regardless of who he fights. Lopez stopped complaining because he's getting what he wants. Who would pay anyone $2 million fighting on a Thursday?Last edited by jqSide; 07-19-2024, 09:31 PM.
