  • Comments Thread For: Hrgovic Says History With Dubois Gives Him the Edge in Heavyweight Clash

Filip Hrgovic is currently playing an important part in the Queensberry vs Matchroom '5 s 5' pre-event hype machine but if you caught the 32-year-old Croatian in a quiet moment and if he was totally honest, he would probably admit that he couldn't care less whether Team Matchroom wins the event. He will just be desperate to beat Daniel Dubois and go home.

Hrogvic needs to look at his record before he criticizes Dubois. At least Dubois didn't fight Demsey McKean and Mark De Mori in his last 2 fights.

    Dubois fought Miller and Usyk.

And Hrgovic is unbeaten... Shouldn't he be aiming higher?

DDD did terrible against Usyk and Miller was a complete joke who has not been a serious contender for over 5 years after his multiple suspensions. So It is real hard to go off those performances. However, Hrgovics last fight against a decent opponent was Zhang, who I felt beat him.Hrgovic did however eat every shot Zhang threw at him and kept coming...DDD went down and quit on a jab. Tough fight to call but I have Hrgovic by mid to late stoppage.

I recall Gorman loving mentioning how he dominated Dubois in sparring and that ended real well for him, now clearly Hrgovic and Gorman are worlds apart but it's just something to keep in mind, sparring is just sparring after all.

How should he aim higher ? Joyce backed out of the Hrgovic fight in 2020 and picked Dubois instead knowing his experience with Hrgovic. De Mori was also a last minute replacement for Charles Martin who couldn’t get in the country they were at . We can nit pick who fought who but you can’t make guys fight Hrgovic like Parker claiming injuries then taking fights once Hrgovic gets another fight booked etc etc .

I remember at one point they went down an entire list of at least 10 fighters fir Hrgovic and everyone had an excuse not to take it ? You can’t make this stuff up and that’s how McKean got the fight he was outside the top 10 .
but who was Zhang in 2022? He had just fought the legendary duo of Scott Alexander and Craig Lewis and had drawn with top-70 guy Jerry Forrest.

Dubois is no great fighter and but isn't criticizing Hrgoivc as as far as I can see?

Also you are acting like Hrgovic is currently some kind of monster - for people to be scared of him. I would say Zhang looks more like the monster to be scared of - KO-ing Joyce and knocking Parker down with ease. Fighters with solid chins, who don't get knocked down with single punches normally

Hrgovic looks like potentially a very good fighter - who has yet to step-up properly to top-10 level. He tried with Zhang, struggled a bit and then went back down to his previous level again.

I wanted Dubois to win but I picked Hrgovic to win because of his performance against Zhang (even with the weird moments where he kept turning away and getting hit)

I still don't get how Hrgovic *is* a great fighter. He hasn't proven it at all and in fact this loss against Dubois makes it more unlikely. Hrgovic again showed he has an elite level chin though. I'll give him that. Dubois is a hard puncher.

The irony is IF Hrgovic had been fighting top guys on a consistent basis it would have prepared him better for Dubois. Dubois is living proof that tough fights make you better.

And who will Hgrovic come back against? Probably more C-level bums. Because "No one will fight him, they are all too scared!" Sure... I'm not sure why anyone believed that excuse. Zhang is way more of a risk to fight than Hrgovic because of his huge power.
