  • Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn: Josh Taylor Is an Underappreciated All-Time British Great

Eddie Hearn may be the rival promoter of Josh Taylor's main domestic rival, Jack Catterall, but he was not short of praise for Scotland's Taylor ahead of Saturday's grudge match between the two fighters.

He's had a really good career. Whatever happens now, he can always say he was once an undisputed champion.

How you rate him compared to former Scottish great Ken Buchanan, opinions may vary. Buchanan was a tough fighter, who lost to a then young Roberto Duran, who we know became one of the best ever.

It’s already a sad state of affairs for British boxing as all of their relevant boxers have taken massive falls from grace, but things are even worse than I thought if Taylor qualifies as an all time great there.

He's had a really good run, but he's not hungry enough anymore to make it back to the top.

The Scottish don't get too enthused about supporting the English....what comes around goes around. Taylor is the best Scottish fighter since Jim Watt. Take that for what it is...He's no Ken Buchanan.

He's only had 20 fights. I know he was undisputed but he hasn't really beat that many people. No one (normal) in the UK had heard of Prograis when he fought him or the other guys after him. Also he often comes across as a bit grumpy and arrogant.

I do think if he does well from now on - he will become better and better known

Someone like Amir Khan was huge here in comparison. Probably because he did well in the Olympics as a young kid and was a likeable person (outside the boxing world). You'd also see him on entertainment shows, so normal people would get to know who he was

They really don’t. We, the English call everyone in Britain “British” but he welsh and the Scottish call themselves….Welsh and Scottish.

Kenny didn't play house, he was a road warrior writ large. Taylor bragged on being unbeatable in the Hydro and won his biggest fight there. Kenny was crowned in Puerto Rico, fought in the US east and west coast, circled the globe. No comparison.

I met Edwin Chuchu Malave after he fought Kenny. He said Buchanan hit harder than anybody he ever met. To me, that is high praise.
