Fernando would have never purposefully ducked other fighters and used the excuse “it’s because I’m Mexican”

That’s a fact. Fernando took more risks by the age of 25 than these so called “faces of boxing” have taken their entire careers. By 25 he had already been in the ring with Campas, Raul Marquez, Winky Wright, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad and Oscar delahoya. Despite being from California, he defined Mexican warrior more than these current guys who are actually from Mexico.

Wilfredo Rivera and Javier Castillejo are also good wins in my opinion. By the time he fought Trinidad he had just turned 23 years old aswell.

Not a big fan that his son Emiliano Vargas taking a step backwards against Nelson Hampton (10-8) but then again he is 19 years and is going to be inactive for 5-6 months.

Fernando Vargas was a great fighter for taking those hard fight. I saw the one with Trinidad and thought he was taking some big shots against Trinidad. If Vargas had better defense then I believe he could've fought longer in his career. He started to take wayyy too many beatings as he aged. I liked Vargas quite a bit. During his era guys didn't duck each other the way they do today.

Dude was in wars and didn’t care if he was against the odds. He took his losses and drove on and if you beat him you had to go through the trenches to do it. I miss those warriors like him

Trinidad vs. Vargas is the epitome of a classic fight. Just as great as Corralles vs Castillo I. I guess we didn’t realize how good we had it back then.

absolutely. It is one of my all time favorite fights. A fight you can continuously throw on and never get bored of watching it. Fireworks and drama all the way though.

It was his 15th fight and he had just turned 21 years old a week prior.

Campas wasn't exactly the best fighter around, but if you belonged at the elite you have to go through the trenches with this guy who was a road warrior being highly active with a relentless style. He had just beaten Raul Marquez after losing to the likes of Trinidad who by the way was dropped and utilized underhanded tactics to recover.
