Comments Thread For: Hearn Stresses Importance of Staging 'Major' Fights in the UK Amid Boxing Boom in Saudi Arabia

British promoter Eddie Hearn wants to make sure significant fights are not all cannibalized by Saudi Arabia. The head of Matchroom Boxing insisted in a recent in interview that there needs to be a concerted effort to ensure that high-profile domestic matchups between fighters from Ireland and the United Kingdom take place on local soil and not in the oil-producing country in the Middle East, which has emerged as a de facto capital for the sport in recent months.

Hearn is full of it, he’ll go wherever the money is. Like all promoters. Morals go out the window when there’s a few quid to be made.

Yeah, for any fight the Saudi’s don’t want. Promoters are like earthworms, they would go as low as sucking an earthworm’s **** if they could bank as much money for themselves as possible. But, maybe Eddie has turned the corner now that he and Warren are besties. LMAO!

Hearn is desperate to cash in on his investment in Benn and knows nobody elsewhere is ****** enough to see this weak matchup with only their fathers names (30 years ago!) to spin this shyte. Hearn is only bothered where the money is not where the fights take place for the good of the fans.

This sounds like it it shouldn't be a problem but only today a work colleague, who I'd classify as a serious casual, said that he can't get excited (watching on tv) when the atmosphere is so dead

I think the Saudis should stump up free flight and hotel packages for 10,000 real fans - might cost them $500 per person - that's $5 million - chump change for them

I couldn't care less if we get more cards like the last one...that was super entertaining and impacted hw division nicely. Was way more like a 90s ppv or even a good ufc card. Being legit excited for fights on the bottom of the card is not really a thing in boxing anymore.
