Comments Thread For: Devin Haney Traveled Road Contemporaries Were Unwilling To Take Back To His Home Area

By Keith Idec - Amid all the accusations, cursing and over-the-top promotional bluster during their press conference Thursday, Regis Prograis pointed out that this isn't really a hometown fight for Devin Haney. The former undisputed lightweight champion comes from Henderson, Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas, from Prograis' perspective. That's where Haney moved with his father/trainer, Bill Haney, when he was 7 years old.

Interesting article. The way forward for ambitious fighters is to not get locked into long term promotional deals and/or have caveats in their contracts which allow for cross-promotional/network fights. The days of restrictive, long term, Top Rank style contracts need to end.

I like what Haney is doing. Like every successful boxer he seems to attract a lot of detractors on here but they're a noisy minority who will never be happy.

Haney's been on some streak but I think Prograis may just catch him and hurt him. Having said that, Prograis is a simplistic fighter whereas Haney has so many tools but maybe lacks the physicality.

Whilst Haney embarrassed himself with his "never losing to a white boy" comments a while back, to his credit he has trodden a path and taken risks that the likes of Davis and Stevenson have been unwilling to.

If Haney gets past Prograis then, assuming neither Davis or Stevenson want to step up, a fight with Lopez at 140 is massive.

A lot of people did not take to Hate um Haney and i still have not. Could care less about his road traveled in his and his father's Promo Bids --did he do the things in the ring that were mentioned yes he did not lie there. His trouble will always come when he gets tested on the chin and on the insides. Hope this fight brings it out in Haney and hope that a determined fighter shows up in Progress he has a history that can be suspect at times also. Is Pro the big challenge that Haney needs to put on a special kind of fight ? i hope they both push each other to the limits the outter limits of there comfort zones not for there sake but for the sake of the fight....................

Lopez already ducked him twice at 135, so I doubt that’s happening. Haney made that comment at around 20 years of age & apologised maturely. Teo however, still hasn’t apologised about his comments about ‘The black fighters’ at 26 years of age.

Wired for Haney unless he scores a hug down.

Haney is being promoted as the "face" right now, and all his opponents are forced to play the "heel" by every promoter he works with because they see him a the next Floyd "MONEY" Mayweather. He's manufacture, not real. If things were fair, he'd have two losses on his record already. This is what you call a "scripted story." There's nothing commendable by following a script that was prewritten. Too much money has been invested in this guy to have it flushed down the toilet. Promotors, networks and commissions see a decade worth of bags of money coming their way with this guy.

I can't begrudge this guy's success. He's literally been undisputed. Sure, he won it vs Kambosos. That's the way the cookie crumbles. I saw the Loma fight as a draw, at best. Loma does himself no favors by starting late and taking time off during rounds. Haney's size advantage played a huge part, but he made 135. That's the curse of the "day before weigh in." Loma should be fighting at 130, to begin with. He's damaged his own legacy by fighting at too high of a weight. That's not Haney's fault. No, I don't prefer his style. I hope Prograis can test that chin, but I won't be surprised if Haney wins.
