A strawweight title fight more than a year in the making remains in limbo as deadlines near. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that ongoing efforts are being made to get Thammanoon Niyomtrong to the U.S. and his title consolidation bout with Erick Rosa into a boxing ring. The two were originally due to meet in October, with three separate dates--October 7, October 14 and October 19--provided to the WBA.

What a saga. Shows how little the sanctioning bodies mean when there's barely any money on the table. Funny how the Thais arrested Rosa when he flew to Thailand for the fight and now Niyomtrong is saying he can't leave due to a visa issue. Something's wrong there but I'm not familiar with Thai culture.

Strip Niyomtrong. Leave Rosa as the beltholder and let him fight the next contender.

WHY ERIK ROSA HAD TROUBLE WHEN TRYING TO ENTER THAILAND? Because the manager of Erik Rosa, Ms Belgica Pena, did not get for him a Thailand visa and did NOT CHECK check that ROSA's passport had less than 6 months expiration date, which are requirements to enter the Kingdom of Thailand.

Yet, she made him board the plane and fly into Thailand without visa. So reckless..... AND What happened?

Upon arrival at the ****kok International Airport, Thailand Immigration Authorities (not the Thai promoter!), found no visa, which, again, is the law and a mandatory requirement for a citizen of the Dominican Republic to legally enter the Kingdom of Thailand. AND number two, noted that his passport had a validity of less than 6 months, another legal requirement in for the Kingdom. Who is at fault for Rosa to get held by Thai Immigration Authorities?

IF YOU ARE an IMMIGRATION OFFICER and someone gets into your counter without visa and a passport just about to expire, what would you do?????

IN FACT, WOULD ANYONE dare to fly into the USA without a visa??? AND WITH A passport just near expiration date? Why wouldn't you do that?

SURE NOT! Because U.S. Homeland Security would tag you as an illegal undocumented alien (which indeed you would be), likely "arresting you," put you in a cell, or send you back to your country after who knows how much time behind bars. Yes or no????

YET, yet yet, after "holding" Rosa for short time (not arresting him, which is not the same), Thai immigration allowed Rosa FREE!

Rosa was treated with respect while being held.

Can you imagine what would Border Patrol would do to you if you dare to land into JFK or LAX without a valid U.S. VISA?

Even Rosa had no visa, he was set free, even without a visa! That happened one week before the scheduled fight. Yet, his manager Belgica Pena opted not to fight, but to fly back to the Dominican Republic. WHO IS AT FAULT HERE? Now she is playing dirty tricks. Belgica Pena knows that what happened was her fault.

That is why She is not arranging for Niyomtrong to get a U.S. visa. Because, In fact, she wants Niyomtrong to be stripped, even though he is innocent. She knows that.

Also, what is wrong with Boxingscene being so NAIVE, saying "BoxingScene.com has confirmed that ongoing efforts are being made to get Thammanoon Niyomtrong to the U.S."

Really? Just because Belgica Pena or someone says "we are doing our best effort to get Niyomtrong a U.S. Visa" that does not make it true. Is it any evidence, and from whom, that "ongoing efforts" are being made. "Confirmed that ongoing efforts are being made". mmmm..... then those efforts are bad. or "hang" too fishy.....

Has boxingscene seen any evidence or document or any application form done or any petition from a U.S. immigration lawyer? because if you say "confirmed".... just from a chat or a call? plus Belgica Pena herself is not an american citizen. If she says "confirmed ongoing efforts are being done, can you be more specific? Of course, you can't be specific. So, what "ongoing efforts" are you talking about? I don't buy it.

HOWEVER... Belgica Pena's other boxer Alberto Puello was not innocent. Alberto Puello was stripped of his world tittle by the WBA last May for failing a drug test!! The WBA had not choice but to strip Belgica Pena's boxer.

In contrast, Niyomtrong has not failed any drug test or done anything wrong. Why stripping him? He has been an active good "super" champion for the WBA till Belgica Pena got into the picture, ruining everything.

IN CONCLUSION, my opinion: Niyomtrong vs Rosa should be cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances and differences impossible to solve, BOTH champions set free to go on to defend against a challenger of their choosing (a suggestion). Because it is not fair to punish a boxer, depriving him of the title he earned taking blows in the ring, stripping him by something of which he never had any control.

Niyomtrong never failed a test or failed to defend his title. He is a role model in his native country. He has been a long-time champion for the WBA and stripping him would be TOTALLY UNFAIR, not to mention illegal. How could the WBA justify that he does not want to defend? Pena pulled Rosa out of Thailand when he was already FREE, a week before the fight! Let the two champs continue their careers, they have been affected.

I'm confused and, perhaps, you can clear something up for me. How is it that it's Rosa's manager to get the right documents for her boxer and also her responsibility to get Niyomtrong's documents to come in the U.S as well? Please explain because it would seem to make sense that it's Niyomtrong's people that should be responsible for his documents. Am I missing something or are you blowing smoke up my a*$?
