Comments Thread For: Hearn: I Don't Know What Charlo Was Doing, It Looked Like a Sparring Session

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom was surprised that Jermell Charlo didn't take any risks in Saturday's fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Charlo, who entered the ring as the undisputed champion at 154-pounds, moved up by two full weight classes to challenge Canelo for his undisputed crown at 168-pounds.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with Eddie. This is how bad Charlo's performance was...

Eddie Hearn, of all the active promoters, gives the most honest and informed takes.
Does he shill for his men?
      Of course.
      That's his job.
But when this man talks boxing, he's thoughtful, and daring.
I don't understand got the life of me why people dump on him.

It’s not that Jermell didn’t try, canelo didn’t let him do sh.it and made Mell fight his fight. One of the best ring generalship performances I’ve seen ever

I don't agree with Hearn very often, but he is exactly correct here.

He briefly tried once or twice. But he took zero chances, Canelo gets his due. But Charlo looked like his gameplan coming into the fight was just to survive. Anything else he’d open himself to being knocked out. It was never about “legacy” it was payday. After the better of the two Charlo bros lost like that I can’t imagine fighting the other would be marketable.

Charlo didn’t take risks after he realized Alvarez is two levels ahead of him

              there’s a segment where Charlo throws a 6
punch combo and lands ONE grazing shot

              big skill gap

Revenge is always marketable, specially against the undefeated bigger charlo. However, id rather not see that fight, id like Benavidez next in may or someone else rather then jermall/david in may and then get Benavidez in sept 2024… honestly the two fighters id love to see canelo against is Morrell and the winner of David vs boo boo … preferably morrel in may and then the winner of David vs boo boo in September. Just my opinion and wishes

He barely threw a punch and didn't commit to anything.

Well, I mean; he DOES have a record of taking fighters who get suspended for PED's and having them fight in other jurisdictions anyways....so, there's that.
