Comments Thread For: Crawford: 'I Was Kinda Disappointed ... That It Took This Long For Me To Get My Recognition'

“I was chasing Manny Pacquiao for probably 5 years before [Spence]." - Terence Crawford

Bob Arum admits he killed Pacquiao-Crawford fight, didn’t want to see Manny take damage
Arum fields questions about his perspective on Pacquiao’s ongoing career.
    By Wil Esco@wil_esco Jan 29, 2019, 9:00am EST

On if he would have any reservations of making a fight between Pacquiao and Terence Crawford:

“Well I killed the fight. Yeah. [I wouldn’t want that for Manny] because I know how it would end...Not that I knew that it would end in serious disability for Manny — that I wouldn’t know — but as a fight it would only end one way.

“Forget my emotions, I wouldn’t wanna see him take that kind of damage because it might affect his future life — quality of his future life.”

Now is not the time to dwell on the past, it's time to look forward to bigger, and better fight's.
On Bob Arum killing the fight between Crawford, and Pacquiao his job as a promoter is to make the best fight's whenever possible.
If he thinks that a particular fighter in his promotional stable isn't capable of fighting to the best of this ability any longer.
Then he shouldn't be promoting him any longer, and allow him out of their contract.

Man enough with all this crying from Crawford about recognition. Bro, you are 35 and just now beat someone who was note worthy, it is what it is.... As far as Pacquiao, yeah maybe Pac and Bob weren't to interested in taking that fight, but if anything tells us from the Spence negotiations, Crawford would of probably wanted the moon for that fight, Bob probably recognized this and didn't want to waste his time. At the end of the day, you need to take a good look at yourself in how things in your life play out....

They did the same thing to Archie Moore and many other great fighters. Matchmaker Teddy Brenner once said, "there's no room for perfection in boxing". He was referring to Harold Johnson from Philly. Now the same thing is happening to Boots Ennis. At least you got to win your world titles. They froze Archie out of the title picture until he was well in his 40's. Guys like Charley Burley and Sam Langford never got world title shots, and they were both about as good as it gets. At least with Bud, he got to make good money along the way, and win titles. It's mainly the dumb ass fans who keep saying he ain't fought nobody, and it was Bob Arum, who failed to promote Bud like he promoted his little white or latin fighters. And the other powers in boxing like PBC who wouldn't let Bud fight the top ppl from their roster because he wouldn't sign to them, knowing all along that he could kick all their asses. Floyd, Ellerbe, and Al Haymon have all clearly understood this from day one and did all they could to blacklist Bud and try to age him out. Dirty mofos

He wanted the pac fight and it was dangled in front of him to resign w TR and then they snatched it. Then it was “killed” by Arum. Is what it is. He used his time wisely and became undisputed at 140 and 147. All worked out fine, and now you the most talked about fighter in the sport. Slow, steady, and intentional.

If Crawford had gotten the Pacquiao fight he could have reached star status years ago.

Shameful that Bob Arum c0ckblocked him.

was pac 5 yrs ago really some kind of prize that was going to elevate bud up? he was clearly well past his best, surely the fight was just a foregone conclusion, elevation fights i presume would need an element of oh this guy 'might' lose so casuals get interested, surely that wouldnt have existed with pac bud at that time

TR dangled Pac and Taylor and he never got those fights. He didn't have no recognizable wins until the Spence domination.
