  • Comments Thread For: The Usyk-Dubois Low Blow Debate Continues

By Corey Erdman - As if the heavyweight division needed another strange controversy to create further debate about who is, or is deserving to be considered the division's best, we were served one up this past weekend. Heading into Saturday's bout against Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois entered as a gargantuan underdog, with many

Anyone who is unbiased can see its a legal shot. But a lot of people clearly not into fairness if their guy loses. That's sports and life.

It was a legal shot. It was so perfect and hurt him so bad that it was so much easier to imagine it as low for so many people. Low blows are a real mess in this sport. I am sick of people/fighters complaining about something like steroids when they don’t care that in one fight someone can land a half dozen low blows with no warnings. Sometimes a guy can land clean body shots all night and the ref and opponent sell them as low and the guy gets screwed.
Elastic waist bands on shorts are massive now. Like over 8” and that’s by design and also worn high.
The shot was right under the elbow. Nowhere near the cup or thigh. Had to land clean to hurt so much.
I am an Usyk fan but I call it like I see it. I also hate unseen, uncalled low blows. This was clean and a good counter. I would rather fight anyone on all the gear they can take than have the ref allow me to take heaters to the cup with no call. If you are willing to get away with what you can then don’t hate on other people, course that’s not how humans or sports really work. Shot looked clean in real time too.

i think the ref should be censored for his actions, usyk should be ashamed of his oscar/award winning performance especially seeing him holding his stomach where the punch was placed, rather than his balls where the blind ref said the punch o landed...... instant replay is a MUST. IN professional boxing rat now. they will appeal to no avail because no boxing oversite is available. PS.... if you want to see a low blow watch the effey agafa fight that happened later that same night on espn+ on the jared anderson card, now those were looowwww blows.

Borderline is what i called it. After that it starts to bring up all kinds of speculation and speculation is great for boxing and boxing writers and any sport that happens to border on less then honest all the time. But in boxing where the rules are no rules unless we think they fit the fight and our fighter it gets ugly real fast. A thief is always a thief even if he payed for it twice at the door. A liar is always a liar even if he only told the truth twice. So boxing gets to play with the truth all the time in the ring then after the fight when the facts will never be known. Boxing loves this stuff anything to keep people talking and looking at boxing-- Boxing dont want the truth it wants to get attention is all. Wait till next week something else will happen and boxing will be glad to debate it and divert the attention away from its own faults and keeping away from what could help clean boxing up.

Those who claim the shot was legal don't understand the rule. It's a foul if you hit below the belt. The belt being an imaginary line from the top of the hips to the navel. This is independent of where the trunks are, though the trunk shouldn't go above this, in pro boxing they usually allow but the referee will mark where it is allowed and where not prior to the fight.

Half the glove lands under the belt with the upper part of the glove landing on the belt. The whole glove lands under the navel/top of the hips. Clear low blow.

To clarify: The shot is not on the balls but that doesn't make it a legal blow.

I´m sure referee Luis Pabon has a better understanding of the rules than casual fans on the internet or former boxers turned experts who might have never read a rule book.

              Clearly low.

Only Andre Ward fans says it was legit.
